why a change in billing when changing devices

im trying to change from iphone 4s with a 1x data coverage in my area to a Samsung note2(I own the phone) to improve my data coverage. when I go through the process of changing devices and get to the charges I noticed that the cost of my current unlimited plan has gone up. I would like to know why Verizon is changing more for the data plan I did not change. I canceled out of the process until I understand why a change in cost before switching to the Samsung.

I have old plan: Americas choice with unlimited data and 250 text

What "process" are you going through?

Can you give more details?

If you are just activating a different phone (that you already have), there should not be a need to change the service plan.

Have you tried just calling Customer Service?

Hi ttipgem,

I log on to my Verizon account and select change/activate device. as I go through the steps to change from iphone to a note 2. the screen that follows the one asking to select plan (which I do not change) it gives you a screen with a detail break down of the charges. at that screen I noticed that my $29.99 unlimited data plan increased several dollars. is it because im going from 3g to 4g service? the only change I want to do is the device which I own out right.

you are correct im not changing my service plan but the bill detail is showing a increase in my monthly bill.

Ah. You are changing to a 4G device so you will need a SIM card. Your iPhone 4s doesn't use one.

CALL Customer Service and have them send you a SIM card. Then once you put the card in the device, it will activate.

Alternately, go to a corporate store and ask for one.

with a new sim card I was able to get to the last step before activating the phone I want to switch to. I also paid attention to the charges and found that my employer discount was not being applied to my voice plan but was to every thing else. what can I do to have the discount apply before I press the confirmation button.
