Question About Cancelling Contract

Another family members phone contract who is on the same account as mine is up.  Mine however has another year yet and I wish to cancel my phone and get a new carrier but keep the other one on verizon.  Is there any possible way that my family member could switch contracts with me so that I could leave without a fee using her contract and she stays on for the remainder of the contract?  If that does not work is there another way i can get out without paying an early cancellation fee?  Thanks!

The contract is tied to the number/line - so if your family member is willing to use your number, and you are willing to give it up, then this would work.  Family member puts their phone on your line, uses your number.  Their line, no longer in contract, can be cancelled without penalty.

If you port your number, you will effectively cancel that contract and be subject to an ETF, since that number still has a year left on the contract.
