Unlimited Data being taken away

SHAME ON YOU VERIZON, I've been a customer for over 15+ years and work in customer service. You require that I give up my unlimited data to upgrade my phone! You've lost a very valuable customer and my respect for a company that I used to admire! SHAME ON YOU!

It is only removed if you renew your contract and purchase a device at the subsidized price. If you pay full retail price or bring your own devices, you can keep your unlimited data plan.

I found that not true today with them not activating a phone that was purchased. It is because they want you out of the unlimited plan

Ann is correct in her post. What device and was it VZW branded? Where did you acquire it? Also it may not have a clear MEID/ESN. There is more we need to know as details are lacking in your post

Freddawg, read the replies to all your other posts like this and stop reposting the same thing in every thread. Did you or did you not purchase the unlocked iPhone from Apple, and not the Verizon model?

Yes, I agree. I just got off the phone with Verizon arguing with them that I am grandfathered in for unlimited data. I too have been a long-time customer of Verizon - when they had cell phones mounted in your car back in the 90's! I just upgraded my phone and customer service said since i didn't pay FULL RETAIL ($700+ for my phone) and signed a new contract they did away with unlimited but I can certainly upgrade to more data GB for a price. Even though I bought the phone at a Verizon Wireless provider store. I told her very unhappy and may have to look at other providers. I guess being a customer for 20+ F'ng years doesn't matter to VERIZON. Sorry, Verizon, I can no longer tout your great service!

It is frustrating that people lose the grandfathered unlimited plan when they upgrade. However I am a heavy user and only have the 6GB plan and its more than enough so unlimited data is not necessary. I understand you wouldn't want to keep track of your data usage but it is pretty easy to do with notification preferences and the ability to backdate the plan if you go over. The only major carrier that has "truely unlimited data" is Sprint and the Verizon network is far superior. It would be a shame to switch to a much less reliable network just because you think you need unlimited data.

Isn't it sad when companies change their prices and make you adhere to their new policies? I know I'm still frustrated with McDonalds about it. I've been a loyal customer of theirs for 20+ years and they REFUSE to give me a cheeseburger for 50 cents the way they used to. I mean...when I started using McDonalds that's the price I was promised and they never said it would change. I'm definitely switching to Burger King because after no research at all, I believe they would never do that to their customers.

I agree! I've been a customer for more than 20 years. I just upgraded from a iPhone 4 to an iPhone 5, I did it at Best Buy Mobile. During the upgrade the Best Buy Mobile associate asked "do you want to keep the plan you currently have." Well of course, my data is unlimited! But to my surprise a week later I get a text from Verizon saying I have used 1.2GB of my 2GB allocated data. That ain't right, so I called Verizon. They said when you upgrade your phone at a reduced price you gave up your unlimited data plan. And my bill didn't go down! Seems the right hand does not know what the left hand is doing! Seems Best Buy Mobile was not informed about this or they failed to to train their people.

I live in a rural area, there is no such thing as a wifi hotspot! Plus why would I ever need a wifi hotspot I have a smartphone. If I have to use a wifi hotspot I would just use my 13" notebook, not my phone! What good is it to have a smartphone when Verizon cuts the data, you can't stream anything like Netflix, YouTube, Pandora. It's just stupid! To have 4 LTE for a measly 2GB of data per billing period! Thanks Verizon for nothing! So much for a mobile smartphone from you guys.

It's a bait and switch! Verizon has this big offering of unlimited data, then down the road they take it away. That's just wrong? What a rip off! Then they add a $30.00 transfer fee that I do on my computer. Just looks to me like Verizon is going backwards! They use to be the best wireless provider, now they are nothing special! Time for me to look at other options. If for no other reason than because Verizon is just out for the money!

I ordered a iphone 5s on sept 27 on there web site and it said i could keep my unlimeted data plan then i find out that there was a gluit in there system ad that they will honor it but now that i have my phone they say they will not honor it need help on what to do here is a copy of my email Order Confirmation

Verizon Will Honor Upgrades From This Past Weekend, Unlimited Data Shall be Kept

Well, we heard back from Verizon with regard to this past weekend’s unlimited upgrade extravaganza, and the news is going to excite those of you who upgraded, that’s for sure. According to Big Red, they will honor orders which were approved over the weekend, allowing customers to retain unlimited data and receive devices at discounted prices. Yep, you read that correctly.

Here is the statement we just received:

Over the past weekend, there was a software issue involving some orders for customers seeking to upgrade their devices. A number of customers who were upgrading devices were able to maintain an unlimited monthly data feature while paying a subsidized price.
Verizon Wireless will honor those orders that were approved this past weekend, allowing those customers to retain their unlimited plans for the duration of their contract and receive their new device.
Verizon Wireless corrected this software issue today (9/30). The company no longer offers unlimited data plans and customers who want to retain existing unlimited data plans, must pay full retail price for a replacement phone.

So, there you have it. Thanks, Verizon.

Oh I understand... and I'm agreeing with you. Verizon just wants the money. That's the entire purpose of their existing. The squeaky wheel gets replaced my friend and losing a handful of customers while keeping 90+ million willing to accept the changes seems like the logical way to go.

When I absolutely have to buy a new phone I will either pay full retail or I will switch to a regular cellphone.

No need in having a smartphone without unlimited data and to get anything close to unlimited (10 GB a month) my bill will go up and I refuse to pay that much. I stream music a whole lot using my phone

Being loyal to a company is great until it hurts the pocketbook. This move by Verizon to charge for data useage has hurt my pocketbook and I must make a decision. Life throws curveballs and expecting things to stay the same is unrealistic. Verizon has made an unpopular decision. It is up to the public to change Verizon's strategy. If enough offer advice it might happen. My advice Verizon - When you make a change inform your end user by training your reps to explain what options are available. I knew nothing about the full price/keep your old phone option until I read here.

I got the same spiel about upgrading changes your contract. When I told the rep that I could go to Tmobil for less than this and still have a great plan and that I've been a customer since they were Qualcom, the rep said (and I quote) "Verizon believes it has the best service so they really don't care what you do, because you'll be back." Customer Service at it's best!

Talk about a #RealityCheck I had to give up my unlimited data last year because I upgraded. The phone I bought (Droid Razr M) has documented radio issues making my 4G basically unusable unless I want to spend my day toggling in and out of airplane mode. Verizon/Moto don't seem to care about fixing it. The phone can't be rooted thanks to the last update Verizon pushed out. Thanks for that!

I'm due to upgrade next month and seriously looking at moving to Tmo after many years with Verizon. My $160/month bill will drop to $100/month for unlimited everyone on my line and a small usage package for my mother's line.

I'm with you.... We need the unlimited data. Nearly twenty years with verizon for the three of us and have never switched. It's worth not upgrading....will probably just leave. Not worth it. I do know some people that have kept it...not sure how they rate over customer loyalty. They didn't purchase their phone for full retail price, either,

It's been 2 months since I mistakenly left ATT and still finding out things I was lied to by the rep who sold me my plan, phone and tablet. Sounded good and got me to switch. But my god, how can Verizon get away with blatantly lying to people? It is absolutely a shame, but I guess they somehow keep it legal (it is not against the law to lie)

You should get some picture of how Verizon shields their dishonest practices when you call Verizon customer service after being sold "a bill of goods" like I was. Here's how your convo goes after you tell them your sob story:

Oh my friend, I'm so sorry to hear that. At least you have a wonderful _____ there. It's such a great product. Where did you say you bought it? Hmmm, do you have the address? ......

Oh sir, I see. You didn't buy that from us. You bought it at a 3rd party vendor. Did you go back to them? They're the ones who will need to help you since their not an actual Verizon Store.

I know I'm not the only one that's got this because 95% of those places with a big Verizon sign that sell Verizon products & plans are these "3rd party vendors" that Verizon customer service apparently is trained to portray almost like rogue pirates that stole their merchandise and are street peddling the items to us illegally.

Good luck, but with a dishonest merchandising structure designed to be deceptive, don't expect helpful, straight answers.

Jroeder, just curious how you know Sprint is so unreliable compared to Verizon? I haven't had their service in many years, but I can tell you that I'm not impressed at all with Verizon vs ATT. Maybe Verizon has service in more areas but I don't spend my time traveling the world. I need service where I live and work, and unfortunately Verizon's service is seriously lacking here.
