Verizon "Pay As you GO" Plans

Hi, I am thinking of switching and purchasing to a Verizon "Pay As you Go" Plan. Example: Say I purchase a $100 of prepaid that will expire in one year. Say, after 6 mths of "Pay as you go " usage, my balance is $50 and I decide to switch to a Verizon 2-yr contract plan with 6months left on the "Pay as you Go". WIll that remaing $50 balance be credited to my new 2-yr Verizon contract plan? Thank you.

Hey there, sunlover75! Thanks for looking at our prepaid plans. I believe they're an example of getting the best of both worlds: Great service, low pricing, all without the binding agreement. They're very different from our postpaid services, so we wouldn't normally be able to transfer balances from a prepaid account to a postpaid account. But in some cases, we can transfer equipment.

Usually, if there is a balance on your account and you transfer to a postpay account that balance will be transferred as a credit towards your fist bill. Keeping in mind that this balance will NOT transfer if you are on a monthly prepay plan such as $50 per month. This only works if you are on one of the daily or basic plans. That is because you have put a bucket of money on the account in reserve to be able to use the service. It is your money and VZW should give it back to you. Also, if you purchase a pre-pay phone in a box (those blister type packages) this must be active with service for at least 6 months before it can be used to transfer to a post pay account.

Do you know this from experience, or simply guessing about what SHOULD happen?

The customer agreement makes no such mention of any funds following you to a postpaid account, simply that no refund on any balance in a postpaid account will be made.

I've seen it many times.

Of course, they can change it at any time.

Last I checked this is how the process worked.

I did not see in the prepaid plans you referred to the details of if you have a bucket of money remaining on your "pay as you Go" plan and you want to transfer to a Verizon 2-yr plan, will that money be credited?

I have seen this happen where a balance that is associated with a basic ($.25 per minute) or daily ($.99 on the day used and $.10 per minute or $1.99 on the day used unlimited calls) plan is transferred to a postpay account. If you subscribe to a monthly plan ($45 per month unlimited talk and text with 500 MB of data) then no balance will transfer.

Personally, I don't see the distinction. If this were the case and you were on a monthly plan, couldn't you simply switch to a daily plan and then have the money transfer??? The only first hand instances I've seen on these forums were from people who were complaining they lost the balance in their prepaid account. Are there any users on here who have had their balance transfer to a Verizon postpaid account?
