How can I keep unlimited data?

Hi, I was hoping somebody could confirm if the following scenario is possible to retain the grandfathered unlimited data plans on three of the four lines on our family plan.

What we have in our family plan:

1. Three lines with unlimited data

2. One line with 2GB monthly data

3. All lines are eligible for upgrades and are month to month

My questions are:

1. Would it be possible to use upgrade the phone on the 2GB line, activate the phone, then swap it to one of the other lines and reactivate the old phone without losing the destination line's unlimited data?

2. Assuming (1) is possible, could I transfer the upgrades from the unlimited data lines to the 2GB line and repeat this process four times so that all of our phones are upgraded and all lines retain their previous data plan?

# 1 is possible; just keep in mind that the line with 2GB data will have a new two-year contract.

#2 is not possible; once you transfer an upgrade from one of the unlimited lines, that line will have a new two-year contract and the unlimited data will be switched to a tiered (i.e., 2GB for $30) data plan.

Both scenarios would work, Verizon isn't allowed to tell you that however. When you transfer the upgrade from an unlimited line it does extend the contract on that line, however the system will take it as you are getting a new phone for the line that doesn't have unlimited data, when you receive the phones customer service can activate the phones on the existing lines with unlimited still intact.

Wouldn't shock me if soon Verizon stopped allowing #1 unless you were on a More Everything plan. That would help accelerate getting rid of unlimited data. Either by the unlimited data customers caving in and taking a subsidize upgrade thus losing their unlimited data or by attrition with those customers going elsewhere.

You are VERY wrong. the last thing we need is for this guy to come back here and being mad that he took your advice and lost his unlimited data.

Unlimited data lines can NOT get a new contract. So it doesn't matter if the phone isn't activated on that line. The new contract kills the unlimited data.
