Verizon Max data?

My 2 year contract ends in 3 days and I am considering a new phone. I called Verizon to find out if I can keep my unlimited data if I purchase a phone at full price from someone other than Verizon. I was told the answer was yes I can. The Rep also told me that there is also a program for people with unlimited data to get a new subsidized with 6gb of data for $30. He said it was called the Verizon Max service. I asked if I was able to use Verizon Max 6gb if I purchased a subsidized phone from Best Buy where I can get award points and other promotions. I was told yes but I would have to contact Verizon after I purchased the phone and request the promotion. Can someone here verify if that information is true. I like unlimited but I can get by on 6gb for $30. I don't want to buy the phone from BB and find out that Verizon will not allow the promotion.

honestly I would get the phone straight form Verizon and not have to deal with the possibility. Remember it says right in the customer agreement what a rep tells you is not binding.

Personally to be safe, I would just go to a verizon corporate store.

Yes the price is cheaper at Best Buy, but they don't have full access to your whole account. They cannot continue unlimited data if they set up the upgrade from their store. You would get the cheaper price and possibly only the 2 GB for $30.

Then if you call into verizon they will not honor what was said.

You could go to the corporate store and pay full price under the device payment plan. You then divide the price by 12 months and pay the first payment plus a $2 finance charge. The rest will be billed over the remaining 11 months plus the $2.

This way you keep unlimited data, and no plan changes and no contracts. I think this is much better than the Edge program. Where you pay over 24 months and lose your unlimited data. Very bad. If you like new phones early then this plan would be for you.

Choose carefully.

Yeah, I have heard of the plan and correct me if I am wrong but you do not need to buy the phone from Best Buy to get that plan.

It doesn't make sense that you'd have to call Verizon to get the plan after you've bought the phone from Best Buy. If Verizon is the one to add the plan then they should be able to do it themselves.

If you bought the phone from Best Buy, Verizon can easily place the blame on Best Buy if they don't do that plan.

I would go straight to a Corporate Verizon store or call in like Elector said

Thanks guys for the replies. I'm not so sure I want that 6gb plan now. I may just go ahead and look into purchasing a phone at full price. That way I will not be tied up with a contract for another 2 years. Besides I'm on the older style family plan with with my wife that does not include unlimited call and text. I don't know how that would come in play if I go with the the Verizon Max promotion. Another alternative for me is to put up with my presently still working but quirky HTC Rezound until it gets too bad to deal with.

The Max plan is made for those on the Nationwide plans. Doesn't matter if you have other lines on your account that do not have unlimited data. If you're not sure if you can stay under 6 GB or whether you want to stay for 2 years then you're better off paying full price for the phone.

You can check how much data you use online. IF you go over 6 GB all the time, keep your current plan.

Do not do anything over the phone! You will have no physical record of the conditions you agreed to. More than one cranky customer has posted about being "tricked out of unlimited data plan". In a store, they print out exactly what you are signed up for:

Plan type and term.

Then wait a week, and check online, under your account - Documents and receipts. Make sure the online agreement is the same as your store receipt. I had a tablet that I purchased at retail cost, at Best buy, did not add to my Verizon account for several months, when I did they entered it as a 2 year contract, subject to ETF. That was fixed PDQ.

You know on this one point I must say it is not just Verizon that pulls this tactic. My wife's tablet on another service was paid for in cash. The screen said NO CONTRACT but when I went on line to check the tablet it stated it was on a two year Advantage Agreement.

Now I had argued at length and they told me there is no early termination fee since you paid full price. There is also no activation fee. That was listed as well, but it was also set a a credit.

I spoke to two account services managers and both said that since the monthly account fees are on a bill that is why it is saying that.

I pointed out that the tablet was supposed to be on a as needed broadband plan. Not billed every month in advance.

I had to actually find the "Mobile Broadband Pass Plan for Tablets" on my own. The customer service people kept saying there was no such plan. Needless to say I found it on their web portal. They removed the line and said just follow the directions to set up per use on the device. You can buy little amounts or very large amounts of data with no chance of going over and it stops when you reach your paid for limit. (Pre-Paid)

You have to watch all these so called customer reps since they are trying to sell you things not remove them.
