Moving number to the other line...

I have two lines on contract. but one of the contract expires in two days and the other number is not being used. Can I move the number on the expiring contract to the contract that still has a great deal of time remaining, so I will only be paying for one line?

If this is not possible, I can just port it away to a prepaid company for a while but how long must I wait to port it back to verizon under my existing contract?

Top notch questions. To be honest, you can move phones to different lines, but the contracts do follow the numbers.

You can end the line with the contract expiring and so pay for only one line, but you can't move that number to your other line.

SuzyQ it did work. I ported the number away on the 02/28/2013 to TMobile and just ported it back into the contract with time remaining. So, it can be done. The bigger becomes why should I have to go through so much trouble?

So Verizon should be expected to provide you a way to get around their policies? Why even have them in the first place, then. Why not simply offer subsidized upgrades ALL the time without ANY obligations, then???

What happened to the number on the remaining contracted line? Typically, when you port out, or cancel, and then restart service (port back in ) within 60 days, everything is restored as it was before the port or cancellation. Are you sure you have one line only? And were you charged an ETF when the number on the contracted line was dropped?

I'd be interested in hearing what your next bill looks like. If this worked for you and the end result is as you anticipated, then I'm glad it worked out for you. And you got lucky ... based on what I have learned over the years and the way I understand Verizon's policies to work, it shouldn't have worked. Don't be surprised if there are ETF charges on your next bill, or that you are back in the same situation as before, with two lines.
