Debt Collector... Scam!?!! HELP!

My husband recently received a letter from Enhanced Recovery Company for a debt supposedly owed to Verizon Wireless for the sum of $1,700. I have looked online and several reviews say this company I a scam. Has anyone else received anything from them??? He did have an old Verizon account he believes he does owe money to. I went to our local VZW and was told they couldn't do anything because he doesn't remember the phone number.... this was from five years ago. He has had several numbers since so knowing which is impossible. Can someone please help me or point me in the right direction. If he has debt to VZW I want to take care of it to help his credit....

Enhanced Recovery Company, LLC.

They seem to be legit. However their collection practices may border on questionable in regards to collections.

I believe only they can fix the issue now. Write a certified letter to them and tell them to verify the debt, not a form letter signed by them but all account particulars. Do not give any social security numbers to them. Also dispute the amount and state in the letter to not contact you again in any manner known or unknown just in case technology makes other communication methods strides.

Also remember they may just be a zombie debt collector who actually does not own the rights to collect the account. This is quite common in the debt collection industry.

Check your credit reports as well and see if it has been reported and by whom and when. You can dispute with the three credit bureaus if you find bogus information.
