How do I deactivate my current phone and activate a different one?

My phone is messing up so I'm wanting to turn it off and use a different phone for that line. How do I do this?

The last time I did that was by going to the Verizon website for wireless. In the column on the left, with the heading Manage My Device, you'll see Activate or Switch Device. It was really quite simple just follow the directions.
