When I call that *228 it says thanks for calling US Cellular???? Will it still set up my phone for the Verizon towers I hope?? Otherwise my reception kind of sucks compared to my US Celluar reception. I though Verizon was supposed to be #1.
You are going to have to go some place where you are not roaming to do the inital program of the phone from a Verizon tower.
Try walking outside, or drive a short distance to get to a Verizon tower.
If you are in an area where most of your phone calls are going to be roaming (you should see an "X" by the signal strength indicator, you may end up getting canceled by Verizon. Most companies have a maximum number of minutes or 50% bench mark that if you consistantl go over, they may cancel your contract. (You will get notificaotn - usually a month or so and your service won't just "stop" suddenly, and you will NOT have to pay an ETF since it was THEY who cancelled the contract, and not you, and the phone will be yours to do with as you wish, resell it etc. but just keep this in mind.
I do not know what Verizon's specific policy is regarding "excessive roaming", maybe a moderator on here can answer that question.
Towers in your area may still be "presenting themselves" as Alltel in your area, so you might be fine once you get the initial programming done with the *228 (which will update your PRL in the process- Preferred Roaming List)
