New Samsung Galaxy S5 won't download MMS messages

Hi, I just bought a Samsung Galaxy S5 and it wont download the MMS messages. I've looked everywhere for answers but can only seem to find info on previous iphone users switching to the Galaxy. This is quite aggravating and would appreciate any advice.

We want all your messages coming through with your awesome new phone, green79. Did you previously have an iPhone? Do you get a notification that a message is available but the picture will not download? Are text coming through fine?

I am going through the same thing. I have read the info here and it has been pretty useless. I am coming from an old-style Casio Brigade. I would receive a picture message, click on it, and it would open. With my new Samsung Galaxy S5, this doesn't happen. There are several messages sitting there, all with a download tab -click it and nothing happens. I am connected to wifi, and my phone is receiving text messages, so why no photo messages? Of course, if I turn on "mobile data" and choose to be charged an outrageous amount for data, then everything works as advertised. It SHOULD be able to receive this like any other text message, as it did on my old phone. If it needs the internet (and I don't understand why it would), it IS connected via wifi in my home. How do you or I fix this so that I don't have to use my mobile data each time I receive a group or photo message?

We want all of your messages to come in as smooth as your previous phone, mipilot. Mobile Data is needed to download MMS messages (pictures, videos, group messages) using the native application on your phone. The data used during the Mobile Data download for those messages do not apply to your allowance. And if you leave WiFi connected too, you'll still be able to use WiFi to avoid usage from other services. If you would prefer to leave Mobile Data turned off you can use text applications, like Verizon Messages http://vz.to/1q9CHkE to send and receive MMS messages over WiFi.

I did not have an iPhone nor have I ever had an iPhone. I receive notifications sometimes that i have a text but i can not open the download box even when on wifi. I don't understand why these messages will not just download automatically because most aren't even photos or videos just text. I shouldn't have to keep trying to download texts on mobile data while on wifi only to have them not come through. It's a constant battle everyday and is affecting my communication at work! I'm so frustrated!!!

research that I have done has said: Texts can be sent as texts, just as

I always have. Pictures messages: You MUST turn on mobile data. You

CAN"T get them via wifi. They then suggested that if I wanted to send

pics, send them via email over wifi or with mobile data turned on. What

a load of crap! Instead of making my life simpler, it is far more

complicated! I want to leave mobile data turned OFF, to minimize data

usage. I prefer to utilize wifi. If I am away from wifi, I want to use

text messaging, including to send/receive pics -just as I always have.

Anything else requires me to activate mobile data, remember to turn it

back off again when I'm done, etc., etc.

I also need to move MSM messages. My Galaxy Nexus old phone screen is broken so I can't transfer. Help would be appreciated.

I know how important those pictures are! Let's see what we can do. When hooking the phone up to the PC with the USB cable, does a file open up so you can view & transfer the pictures? Does it recognize the device? Please keep me posted, thanks!

You have to go to settings then data usage. On that page you have to turn on mobile data. Then your pictures will download correctly in text messages. This happened to me and I finally figured it out.

For the Verizon representative who was incapable of responding appropriately... try reading what the actual problem is not just catching a key word or phrase and posting the same standard response. Some of these people were asking how you fix the problem not why it's doing it.

I just got my GS5 yesterday, and noticed today not all of my text messages were coming through. This thread alone mentions "mobile data" several times, so I looked in my features and noticed the Mobile Data icon was not lit up (green). Tapped it and a whole slew of messages came through! Check to make sure your Mobile Data feature is active.

that was it!! thanks, I was having the same issue! clicked on the Mobile Data Icon and about 6 messages instantly came through! thanks for the tip! Verizon (so called) support should should take note of this post!

I'm having the same problem, but the Mobile Data icon is lit, indicating that it's on. I have two photos on separate threads that I cannot open. I click on the Download button and it spins it's wheels and times out. Are there any other settings that I need to open or close?

Let's get your messages flowing as well J.Redleg. It sounds like these are MMS since you're promted to download. Please make sure Data is On but also that wifi is off.

I am just putting this out there. MMS messages can only be downloaded when mobile data is on, they will not download via Wi-Fi. The same applies to Visual Voicemail if you have that feature.

My s5 stopped letting me download and send mms messages 2 days ago. I've tried using WiFi and turning off WiFi, my messages auto delete old messages, my phone is not lacking in space. What's wrong with my phone? Is there any way to fix it workout bringing it into a store?

Oh my, let's get your messages back in business! When you try to send or receive MMS messages are you connected to our mobile network? Are you using the native messaging application? Are regular text messages working ok? Please share additional details.

11/2/14 Verizon - Samsung S5 wont download mms messages.

Solution: I read through this post and did as everyone instructed and got it to work with a shutdown / restart.

Model Samsung S5 Black:

1. Make sure "Mobile Data" is turned on and disable (Wi-Fi) I also disabled location and all the other stuff.

2. Power down completely, Wait a few seconds and turn the phone back on. On reboot I checked messages, hit download and Bingo! Pictures downloaded immediately.

Yes, sometimes toggling airplane mode will allow MMS messages to be downloaded. Other times, a restart is needed. And sometimes a battery pull is needed.

But these are not fixes. They are just temporary band-aids. This is supposed to be a premium phone, I shouldn't need to do this multiple times a week. I shouldn't need to toggle wifi to recieve MMS messages....it should just work.

I am looking for a solution for this from either Verizon or Samsung. This is becoming increasingly frustrating.

I understand your discontent rwilling! Let's get to the bottom of this issue so that we can explore resolution options! Have you ever been able to receive MMS on your phone? If this issue suddenly star, do you remember if it started after installing a particular application or software update? Do you experience MMS issues when connected to WiFi or cellular data?

Yes I have been able to send/receive MMS. I can send/receive them now (I did a battery pull this morning). I experience this issue regardless if on Wifi connection or if on cellular data (I know that MMS uses cell data, but I don't need to shut off wifi to send/receive MMS when it's working properly)

I've had my phone since May, I've had this issue since then, but only recently has it been happening with increased regularity. I don't recall if the increased occurrences are tied to any software/firmware updates, but I can't be sure.

I had this problem and just solved it! I powered my phone off, removed the battery, removed my SIM card, waited a few seconds, put the SIM and battery back in, and powered the phone back on. Must have not had the SIM in all the way.

Thanks for the courtesy response, vzw support, but will you guys ever actually address this issue?

I've had to do a battery pull twice within 3 hours to recieve mms, this is becoming extremely frustrating.

I just changed carriers to Verizon & upgraded from the S3 to S5. I was always able to send & receive picture messages on the S3 through wifi & now I am unable to do so with this new phone on the Verizon network. I'm not tech savy & don't understand why now I have to turn off wifi & turn on data just to send a picture message that I never had trouble doing before. Please help or explain!

This setting was already selected on my phone, but I found that by simply un-checking it, then re-checking it did the trick. Thanks for sharing!

Make sure Mobile Data is turned on. You can check this by pulling down your notifications than select the "properties" button (square icon next to settings icon on top right of notification window).

Hi I had the same problem. I actually stumbled across the solution while trying to solve another error issue I was having with my S5. Here is a link to a video I used to solve my problem which resulted in solving the picture download issue as well. As soon as I fixed the error with the instructions from this video, all my picture messages downloaded. It worked great. Good luck.

I just had this happen after a system update to G900VVRU2BOE1. I tried everything listed here short of a factory reset.

Here's what finally fixed it for me:

Settings -> More Networks -> Mobile Networks -> Network mode

I changed this from 'Global' to 'LTE/GSM/UMTS' and all of the missing pictures downloaded.

I have changed it back to 'Global' and picture messages are now working again.

This had been happening on my wife's phone for a long time. Finally fixed it with information in one of the posts here to a youtube video.

Anyway, here is what I did to fix it:

Settings...Storage...

Click Cache

It will prompt you about deleting the Cache, click OK.

My wife's phone had over 3GB in the cache. Cleared it and the problem disappeared!
