When my 2 year contact ends, do I have to buy another phone or another 2 year contract? I want to stay with Verizon but I don't want to have to upgrade my phone and I'd rather not have to lock into another 2 year contract.

What happens when my 2 year contract ends? Does Verizon tell me? What do I need to do to continue using Verizon as my wireless service provider?

When you complete your two-year contract, the only thing that changes is that you've completed your contract. In other words, you don't have to buy another phone unless you want to and you don't have to enter into another contract. You simply are switched to month-to-month, meaning you're out of contract and can leave Verizon at any time without paying an Early Termination Fee. And no, Verizon doesn't tell you when your contract has ended, but the information is readily available via your on-line My Verizon account.

The simple answer is NO

You can keep using the same phone and receive the same service. You just are not under contract any more.

If you upgrade then the choice is yours. If you want a FREE phone (or heavily discounted) from Verizon then you need to sign a 2 year contract.

If you purchase your own phone then you are not obligated to a contract.
