Galaxy S5 echo issue?

Lets get it figured out, Zkauffman!

Do you hear an echo on your end too or is it just the other end? Have you tried to reset the device by powering it off and removing the sim card? Did you have this issue previously?

I am having the same problem as described above. The person on the other line hears an echo, unless I am on speakphone. I tried turning off noise cancelling and the enhanced provacy. Still had an echo. Took it out of the case did not solve the problem either. I tried what you suggested, taking out the sim card.and that did not solve the problem either.

I'm sorry you're having same issue with the echo este13! Thanks for all you've tried. Please try lowering volume while on call. This may be the simple fix. Please keep us posted.

Had the same issue. Discovered the SIM card was faulty. Called tech support, took the SIM out of old S3 and activated that. Fixed the echo issue, no problem since!

I would try replacing the Sim as a first option, when it's being replaced make sure the Gold area of it is not touch as this can lead to issues, If the Sim replacement does not fix the issue then I would Have your Local store DOA your S5 and get another one especially if your under your 14 Day return window.. If they do DOA it for ya see if the new phone has the Sim pre-installed in it) if it does see if the Rep can leave it as it is that way there worry of the card being touched..

My wife and I have the same issue. I have the white, she has the black S5. Every call it happens. I've been trying to work with help on Twitter, but have not solved the issue yet. I have taken the SIM out (but not exchanged it) and it did not help. I will probably have to go to a VZW store to get a new SIM.

This is VERY frustrating. I came over to VZW after 12+yrs at Sprint and this is really putting a black mark on what otherwise has been awesome service/data speeds. I had to excuse myself from a conference call at work due to the echo...not good for me at all...

I got on the phone with support and after they called me and heard the echo they sent me out a new phone since it was in the 14 day window. I got the new replacement up and running, made test calls and all is fine now.

I just bought my Samsung S5 yesterday and have the same echo problem. The caller hears this annoying feedback when they speak with me. It is eliminated if I use the speaker phone or bluetooth function.

Called Verizon - they didn't have a clue. They recommended that I reset the phone which I did without improvement.I googled this and found the same problem for people who had the Samsung S2 and S3. You'd think that Samsung would have fixed this by now. Very disappointing.

Also having the same echo issue here. I am having the echo issue with my white S5 but my wife has the black s5 and her's works fine. Brought my phone into the verizon store yesterday and they looked at me like I was crazy until we did some test calls. We tried replacing the SIM and that didn't work. We did a reset, that also didn't work. They tried to replace the phone since I am within the 14 day window but were unable to due to the phones being out of stock/backordered here in San Diego. They made me call in to customer care from the store landline and after 2 hours I was able to get a new one sent out. However, since I paid full price for the phone they had to charge me full price again and said I will be refunded when they recieve the defective S5 back in the mail. We will see how this goes.

Is everyone else here having issues with the white S5 only or are there issues with the black one as well? My replacement device will be a black one since the white one gave me this echo issue and my wife's black S5 works fine.

I have the white, my wife has the black. She called my office phone from her S5 and I still heard an echo on my end, so it may be her phone as well.

I hear an echo on my phone whenever I call anyone (even on my office line), so BOTH our phones have issues.

I have done a reset as well but no luck getting rid of the echo....:(

We're going to stop into a store this weekend to get new ones (replaced/ordered).

Really crappy considering it's an awesome phone otherwise.

I spoke with someone yesterday and it sounds like the first run of phones from Samsung have this issue. 2 people said it was a known issue.

I have new phones on order (white shipped out already, black was backordered until the 24th). The really crappy part is right now VZW is charing me FULL price for BOTH phones ($1300 total!!!!!) when I bought them 10 days ago it was only $199 and a BYGO offer.
VZW beter correct this or I am done with this and I will cancel my contract and go back to Sprint (**shudder**)...

What? There has to be a mistake somewhere. You Paid $199.00 for each phone, that means you are in contract. I am sure they will have to correct it.

Yeah, they want me to refuse delivery of the phones that will be here in 2 days and wait until the end of April. Apparently I need to have it ordered under the Worry Free Guarantee, not the no-contract price. The phone agent said NOTHING about a $1300 charge, just said they would charge my account and then credit it when I sent the defective ones back...really crappy customer service to NOT inform someone you were going to charge then over a grand....

I will make sure it's straight, but now I'm just getting more and more annoyed with @VZWsupport since they won't actually fix anything they just say what needs to be done. No one is actually held accountable on their end so I just sit and wait for their hollow tweets...

I also had to do the same thing. I paid full price in the first place for the original two I didn't do the BOGO because I wanted to keep my unlimited. They charged me $650 for the replacement and said once they recieve the defective one they will refund me. I recieved the new one today and am currently testing it out. I will be sending the echo phone back later today once I know this replacement is good. Then I will see what happens with getting my $650 back. I will post an update once I get it or not..

@eric - Verizon should have paid the $50 in taxes. The phone was defective and covered under warranty. The consumer shouldn't have to pay anything to get a defective item replaced.

My contract is up in about a week. I was looking at getting the S5. But, I keep reading about all of the issues with it, and the less-than-stellar support and/defective unit resolution that Verizon offers.

May have to rethink "upgrading" to an S5 or even staying with Verizon.

I'm having the same issue. they keep exchanging my phone to "get rid of the echo" but it is still there. the store is closed and technical support refuses to help me. I don't know what to do. I'm so frustrated!!!!

I am sorry to hear about the echo on your device. Have all your devices had the issues with the echo? Does the echo only happen on particular calls? Do the echos only happen when you are in a particular area?

Yes, all three phones had severe echo issues. After last night. Having two phones replaced because the store said they couldn't do anything to help me and being on the phone with tech support for over 5 hours, getting hung up on 3x and having the problem not get resolved, crying 2x because the tech guy was so mean I'm seriously thinking about going back to my Motorola Droid and back to my unlimited data as well. I'm so tired. I really just want the problem fixed. We finally gothe the echo resolved by putting my old Sim card into the new phone BUT when I call people on the phone it still sounds like I'm talking in a fish bowl-like they are on speaker on my side and so they cannot hear me very well. Bah! So ready for the problem to be over with!!!!!

OK, that pretty much does it for me. My Droid Razr Maxx works just fine, so will keep it for now. Would have liked to have upgraded, but I don't need the hassles. And there aren't any other phone models that I'm interested in.

We only want to see tears of joy coming from our customers. As you stated that the part of the echo issue was resolved with putting you old SIM into your new phone, during the different device replacements were you ever given a brand new SIM to try?

I've only had this s5 phone for a few days, and I can hear people great on the speaker phone but I sound distorted to everybody else. Is the problem only with 50% of galaxy s5's or with 100% all of them. I need an answer within 2 weeks so I can trade this in for another Motorola phone. They are the best ever! Thought samsung was suppose to be a quality product but according to these post, samsung was a mistake on the mobile side.

I just took mine to the Verizon store for this problem. The employee said "I can fix that" and then simply reseated the battery (took it out and pu tit back in). That seemed to do the trick.

I take it back, there was no problem when the store employee called me but when someone else just called me the echo was still there. When I called him the echo was still there and his voice was cutting out. Back to the store tomorrow (sigh).

I was just charged $35 for a restocking fee when we sent our phones back...this needs to be removed immediately.

I know the restocking fee is not something you want to see on a bill MLSyring. What is the reason you sent your phones back? The restocking fee is valid if you sent it back because you did not want service or wanted to changes phones. We would have to review the account to discuss the restocking fee based on the circumstances surrounding your account.

We sent them back because of the echo issue in this thread...it was a technical issue with the phone which was resolved with new phones...why would I be charged for that?!?!

Got mine fixed! In my case it turned out to be the LifeProof case causing the echo. I switched to an Otterbox Symmetry (which just covers the back) and a piece of tempered glass and no more echo!

I have an echo as well. This is already a replacement in a week since my first one would shut down or reboot on it's own. Any help much appreciated.... I guess I will have to convince Verizon to replace my phone again :smileysad:

So..my echo is fixed! Verizon got a bad batch of Sim cards AND to all of you who got life proof cases with their phones, take it back. It's the case which causes half the echo problem not all the phone. Good luck.

No case, swapped SIM for another and now Verizon is replacing my phone. The tech support person said that is what they are doing for this issue.

im on my second s5 and second phone case. swapped them out at verizon and problem still persist. Spent 3 hours there just so they could set the phone up. total of 8 hours ive spent in the store for this problem. Everything works fine other than the echo problem. Im going on vacation in a week and cant have this problem going on while im out of town. As a brand new verizon customer i regret choosing vzw over sprint, wish i would have just went with sprint! I just bought this same phone on Saturday. I am currently on hold with Verizon because I'm experiencing the same issue. Speakerphone does NOT fix my issue, nor does the volume being turned all the way down. I am also not able to hear the other people on the phone. NEVER had this issue with my iphone.

Obviously many Samsung s5 are having this problem. If you have insurance on the phone, I am sure customer service will send you another phone until you get a phone that works. That's part of mass production.

rambocarpenter we'll get the device running smoothly again! Does this happen every where or specific location? Has there been any physical/water damage?

I had the same problem. I own a ballistic case and when I take it off, it didn't echo anymore. I'm thinking it's something to do with the radio, Mic, or something interfering with the frequency.

As an update, I did try rebooting into safe mode with no change, also reseated the SIM card. Went to the Verizon shop and they replaced the SIM card, but it too made no difference. A replacement phone was shipped to me and I await it's arrival to test again. The Verizon support person advised me there are many shipments of this phone with the same issues they are replacing after verification.

I got the phone about a month ago. My wife told me about the echo, but she just upgraded to an iPhone and we thought the issue was her phone. Apparently not. This seems to be built in to the SIMM cards. They all need to be recalled and the provider should tell us. I will speak with my rep tomorrow.

My husband and I got these phones 3 days ago and got Life Proof cases for them. He noticed the following day that he could hear himself echo when using the new blue tooth we purchased at the same time. Today, he called me without using the blue tooth and the echo/interference was SO bad that we all we hear was a very loud and weird audible tone (think alien machines or something of the sort). We made numerous test calls to each other and other people and no matter what, one end of the phone call always had an echo. I removed the Life Proof case from my phone and the problem was solved immediately. I called my husband (he heard no issues on his blue tooth) and told him to do the same. He then called me without using the blue tooth and everything was normal. I will be returning the Life Proof cases tomorrow and will hope that we will not be charged a restocking fee for them as they cause the phones to operate defectively.

What is the deal with these phones? My new Samsung Galaxy S5 does the same thing: an echo, broken conversation missing every other word, etc. I have now seen this all over the internet -I just wish that I had seen it BEFORE I bought this phone and accessories. What is the latest from your tech people, and what can you do to resolve this? It seems like they were guessing with the sim card and other fixes that really didn't work.

I am on my 3rd Samsung Galaxy S5, they have all had the echo issue. I have tried everything that has been listed above; new SIM card, safety mode, factory reset, powering on and off. I've called Samsung the problem with Samsung is they want you to send your phone back then they will send you a new one about 5 days AFTER they receive yours. My daughter also has this phone and it works perfectly. I have spent so much TIME standing in line at the Verizon store and on hold having to use my land line. Now what???

Andisbabies Having multiple phones with the same issue can be more than frustrating. We want you to love your phone and be able to experience good audio quality. You mentioned your daughter has the same phone with out issues. Are there any differences such as software versions? (You can check under settings, about phone baseband and build versions). Do you have a ottorbox or case, use any type of bluetooth devices etc?

Turn OFF the app TalkBack by Google. It's interfering causing an echo on the SamsungGalaxy S5. People would complain to me when I am on the speakerphone that they hear an echo of my voice.

That fixed my problem. Both my Voyager Pro and my Bose had some irritating digital echo. Turning off TalkBack solved it.

My wife and I purchased the S5 for my mother in law. I do not know when exactly we noticed the echo issue when in calls but it became apparent rather quickly that it was annoying everyone. Upon researching I came across this thread. Several members had mentioned the "Talkback" app. We had installed it onto my mother in laws phone as she is legally blind and thought it would be of help. She never used it but it was on in the background. Upon uninstall of the app, the in call echo went away for all parties and as an added side bonus, my mother in law could hear calls better on speaker (we had no idea there was diminished sound quality until it was better).

I have a new but related problem. I hear an echo on my new Galaxy S5 but ONLY when using my Motorola H730 bluetooth. This bluetooth device worked very well with my previous Android phone. When I disconnect the bluetooth device and speak through the Galaxy phone, the echo (which is on the call recipient's side) goes away completely. I never hear the echo on my end, but the people who I call have uniformly complained about it for the 3 weeks I've had the phone.

The bluetooth hookup in my car works great, but I've not had problems with this bluetooth device before, with other phones. I've tried repeatedly to turn it off and re-pair it with the Galaxy phone. I've tried using the lowest headset volume, to no avail. Does anyone have any possible solutions? I'd hate to buy another bluetooth device, to find out it doesn't solve the problem!

People who call me are experiencing a terrible echo when I use the speakerphone function of my brand new phone. This has been an issue for almost a year, based on the posts on this site. Why hasn't Samsung resolved it by now. Very poor product delivery, Samsung! I will take my phone back and follow the "replace the SIM card" workflow, however, with this much awareness of the problem, a remediated new phone delivery protocol could have easily been put into place by the manufacturer and the carriers who partner with them to eliminate this customer experience issue.:-/

Do you have any other phones you can test the headset with now to see if they have the same issue? Have you tried turning the phone off, removing the SIM card, then putting the SIM back in and turning the phone back on? yesterday, and they suggested that the problem may be an incompatibility
