Has anyone got the update? If you have not received the notification yet, is there a way to get the update?
When I do the settings system says up to date?
Just curious.
I have two of the phones. Still waiting on updates for both. bawww
I havent got the update either but it has been rolling out and will be for the next 11 days to random phones until every Eris has it. When you get it it will appear like a app update in the top notification bar as a System Update and when you slect reboot & install it will start the install process. Unfortunately there is no way to hurry up getting the update for any particualr phone. For now it's just a wating game and chance decides when we may get it. Could be any time from this minute to 11 days from now and I hope its not the later cause I have been wanting this update for a while now and I refused to put the leak on my phone when it came out. Hope you get yours soon. When I get mine I'll post here and let you know what time of the day I got mine. Good Luck!
I got the update on one of my phones. Other then eye candy you won't notice anything different. You have access to 2.1 apps. The useful added functionalities from 2.1 are not included in our Eris update. Specifically 3D Gallery and Speech to text are missing.
Here's how to get the Gallery App back:

Woot! Well snap! I got gallery now!
Thanks Steve!
I live in Southern Maryland, and I just got the notice that the software update was available. I was at home so I switched to WiFi to do the install. Everything went fine. Took about 15 or so minutes. I have not explored any major enhancements. However, the interface alone appears to be perkier. New Icons for many of the apps. Pressing the home key twice gives your a look at all you screens. HOWEVER - my prior screen setup are gone, as well as my icons I placed on the home page, so there will be a little work to get back to how I like it. I can not wait to test the Google Maps enhancements. I must add that I love the Eris - and am not the kind of person who HAS TO have the latest (i.e. the Incredible). I use Mozilla Thunderbird for email, calendar and contact functions. I sync my calendar and contacts to the Eris;. I have my Verizon email to view and reply if necessary, but use Thunderbird to file, create folders, etc. on my laptop. Hope you get the update SOON!!!!
my girlfriend got the update but i havent. North California.
aftger her phone updatd, it keeps getting a android.process.media force close error and nothing i do keeps it from constantly appearing. every app that is part of OS seems to trigger it. have removed several 3rd party apps with no luck.
Got the update early this morning, I live in Central NY, Finger Lakes region. After almost giving up on it ever arriving, I found I like most of it. On the Verizon Wireless site there is a page devoted to how wonderful the new update is, and what it includes. Unfortunately I feel a bit grumpy since one of the new features requires a 2.99 per month subscription! The subscription is so we can actually USE the Visual VM. A very nice feature, meaning one does not have to listen to all the voice mails to get to the one we want, but I think being charged even MORE to use this otherwise lovely piece of technology is a bit much. Otherwise, the Google maps and the Navigator are really worth paying so much for this little beauty.
This is certainly one screwed-up way to do a system update!
I agree but I wonder for every one of us that had a problem if there are thousands that had it work perfectly. I also wonder if HTC reads these forums, I hope so. HELP!
I just did my OTA update and it went as smooth as silk.. I did lose half my contacts, but all I had to do is sync with my google account and I got them all back with no problems. All of my existing apps were still there. With this new update, its definately a nice step from 1.5, with alot of eye candy and some new features that the 1.5 didnt have. My phone runs very smooth with NO lag. No complaints here..
My download was smooth, and quick, and I love so many of the features ( except for having to pay for visual VM...), so I am pretty happy, but I do think that HTC is very helpful every time I have called them with a question. Also Call VerizonWireless, their customer service people are really very helpful, too. I call support people a LOT, because I am not the techie-est person on the planet.
I think that hell just froze over and pigs started to fly. I am D/L the update right now
Has anyone else, after the update, noticed that the signal strength changed? When running 1.5 I used to get 2-3 bars in my apartment and as soon as I walked outside it jumped to full bars. Now that I've updated, I get 1 bar inside and only 2 once I go outside. I've done the PRL update a few times now to no avail. I'm just wondering what the hell's going on here.
I did the manual install from phandroid.com and had no issues at all.
Now my dad's phone received the update over the air and he had a weather program problem. The only thing that fixed it from locking up (the program not the phone) was to do a factory reset which was no issue as all contact information was stored on gmail.com.
With some internet searching I have 3D Gallery and Speech to Text on the Eris as well. Both work super well. For all the soothsayers who said that our phone could not handle speech to text or 3D Gallery because of battery or hardware limitations consider yourself wrong. I have seen no difference in battery performance nor any lag at all while in 3D Gallery or using Speech to Text mic button on the keyboard.
I received the message yesterday ran the update. It was frustrating having to redo all the customizing I had done to get the phone doing exactly what I want. Now, when I plug the phone in for charging through my USB (haven't used it with wall plug yet), the ring tones will now sound for calls, messages, etc. It only vibrates. Otherwise, when not plugged in, all is fine. ???
Got the update. All's well except...what the heck happened to the clock/weather app on the homepage? I can seem to get it back or find it anywhere. Can anyone out there help with this? (I'm talking about just the standard display...not any funky app that I installed).
Sorry, I missed a very important piece of info...when the phone is charging, it seems to disconnect the SD memory card where my songs & downloaded ringtones are thus they will not work when receiving a call, message, etc.
I did the update on Saturday morning and my phone worked fine until later that afternoon. It could not make or accept calls. It was just complete dead silence when I attempted either. I turned off my phone that night and on Sunday morning it worked fine. Today I could not check my voicemail. I could not make any calls. It says that I'm in the call but all you can hear is silence. I turned my phone off and on and then it finally worked again. This is a major issue as a phone is used to MAKE CALLS. Not sure what to do about this. Anyone else?
Since the update, Sunday morning, a few issues have surfaced:
one of my apps would not work, so I uninstalled it.
Voice quality on calls is iffy and cuts in and out
today actually had a dropped call!
I am going to power off the phone, remove the battery for about 20 secs, and see if that works.
Also, and this is from VerizonWireless tech support, dial *288, option 1, which they told me to do about a month ago when the phone acted funny - they told me to do this now and then, to "update" any bug fixes, etc.
I received the update yesterday morning. Other than having to reset my shortcuts and widgets, no problems with the install, but a few problems have crept up since then:
*The gmail icon on my home screen continues to show that I have an unread message, even though my messages have all been read.
*The touch screen seems a bit glitchier, particularly when I slide the top notification panel down. I also noticed this when I was playing Alphamixer. I had to tap the same button several times before the phone recognized it. I've never experienced a problem with that app, so I suspect it's an issue with the phone.
*I can't seem to create a shortcut to google maps and gps. It allows me to name it and choose my icon, but it won't save.
Overall, I'm happy with the update and I love the easy access to all screens. I installed Shoutout for the voice to text and it works ok so far, but I'd love to hear about any other apps that might be more user friendly. With Shoutout, you need to press a button when you talk- maybe they're all like that, but I would prefer something more hands-free.
Anyone else having trouble syncing to Google Calendar after the update? It says it is syncing but it just sits there with the sync icon spinning. Eventually I get a Force Close if I try to view the calendar....
From the accounts & sync option in the settings menu you can also sync various accounts and options. Thought I'd add that in.
When you are on your home page where you want the weather/clock widget, click on the + and click HTC Widget. Choose the Clock Widget and you can select which one you want. I believe the 3rd or 4th option is the one with the clock and weather. Hope this helps!

After receiving the update the contacts Icon on the home page is missing on my wifes phone, she was able to retrieve her contacts after signing back into the gmail account but only able to access them through the "all people" shortcut.
See preferred the contacts shortcut with the image files in the contact listing. any ideas how to get this one back?
Interesting that since the OA update early Sunday morning, I have had two dropped calls - which never happened before the update. I did power off the phone, remove the battery, replace it after 20 sec. I don't know if this fixed the problem. But the BIG QUESTION is: What is htc doing about all this stuff?? Or is this a VerizonWireless issue?
That is the thing, when clicking on WTC widgets it is an incomplete list of widgets available, ie, no clocks, no calendar, and I am sure others. You can not add it by updating either.
So, an issue that I've recently ran into post 2.1 update is that when the rington volume is maxed out the phone rings silently (vibrates) this is a HUGE problem. The issue only started after I had turned the volume to vibrate then about an hour later turned the volume back up all the way... Not quite sure how to resolve this.
Also somethin I'm curious about is, when a contact is linked to Facebook in my phone, I cannot set the contacts own personal picture, it automatically takes the persons Facebook profile picture and sets it as the contact picture. Any ideas??

Add to home, programs, people... ???

I make a call, it shows it's in the call, but I can't hear them and they can't hear me. When this happens, I also lose my voice search function. Powering the phone off and back on seems to cure it. I was wondering if anyone else was having the same issue. Might be worth opening another thread to see if anyone else is experiencing this. Did you get he OTA, or did you do a manual update??
Just had this problem happen to me literally 2 minutes ago...
Disliking this update as of yet with the PAIN IN THE {word filter avoidance} BUGS
I downloaded and installed OTA a few days ago.... It installed as smooth as silk. I am pretty happy with 2.1 except I noticed there is no microphone option on the keyboard for voice-to-text, as promised and you can't pinch and zoom in some applications. I fixed the keyboard by downloading a mod derived from the Incredible. Other than that my contacts gradually showed up over the first few minutes and over all I am pretty happy with OTA.
I've only had two problems sofar (I updated Saturday morning)...
- The weather updates are crappy. Once I update it myself, it seems fine for a little while... but then I'm back to where I started.
- Gmail doesn't update at all. I constantly have to refresh it to see if I have email.
- The keyboard suuuuuuuuucks. Way too touchy and if you even come close to the menu or home buttons it freaks out and deletes my message that I was creating. It's not stored in the conversation or in drafts
I also did the update on Saturday and my battery drains so much faster, don't have the bars like I did, noticed that photos are blurry and just today noticed that on some websites that I could view before looks so small - you can't scroll to look at the site. Not real sure how much I like this update.... any ideas?
Thanks!
Does no one else have a problem with being required to use a password whenever the screen is locked? I didn't have that turned on before, and when I called in to Verizon for help turning it off, they told me it's a mandatory "feature" with 2.1, and that I also can't edit the length of time it takes to go into sleep mode. I sure hope that's not true and I'm just too dumb to figure out how to turn it off. If anyone knows how, please pm me.
I understand offering security, but mandatory security at the expense of usability is not cool in my book. Loved the Eris with 1.5, wishing I had a different phone now...
I got the update today. At first, I was very hesitant to do it because of all the issues/problems other people were having. Well after much prevaricating, I did it. I very excited to say I had no problems at all. All my contacts were intact, my bookmarks were still there and I also still have the clock and weather.
I had relatively minor issues with the update. I do however have one problem....adding my city to the weather widget. I used to be able to add local towns. Now it seems you can only chose from a predetermined major international cities list. Anyone else have this problem? Any solutions?
When I upgraded Monday it zapped my phone book. When I got up the next day my phone book had returned.
No other problems except the signal strength is weaker on the Eris (2 bars instead of 4 at home).
You do not need to use a password when the screen is locked. The sales rep was misinformed. Go to Settings>Security>make sure all three boxes under 'Screen Unlock Pattern' are unchecked.
As for changing the delay before going into sleep mode, go to Settings>Sound and Display>then scroll almost to the bottom and you'll see where you can change your screen timeout.
I hope this helps.
Thanks supernova. That did fix the time out issue, but I don't have any boxes under 'Screen Unlock Pattern'. Just one option, 'Change unlock password'. I took a screen shot but I can't see how to post it here.
do you get talking navigation with on Google Maps with the 2.1 upgrade?
thanks
I am having the Exact same problem! Please someone fix it!! Can't use Facebook, Twitter, view my pictures, change wallpaper, ringtones, hear my phone ringing, and the alarm does not go off! I also can't update apps or download new ones!
Good morning,
Yes you do get talking navigation in Google maps with the 2.1 upgrade
LooseCannon wrote:@ Dangerous_Dave Share the wealth my man... Are you really just going to leave us in suspense about the text to speech program you now have that is so wonderful?????
Not wealth my friend...love. I'm sharin' the love.
Disclaimer: I got this tip from another member and it has worked well for me. I also installed it on my daughter's Eris and she loves it. If you do this and somehow manage to brick your phone, the responsibility lies on you...not me.
Ok, here goes. First, if you don't already have Astro file manager on your Eris...get it! It's not only good for this, it's just a fantastic free app in the market for managing everything that resides on your SD card. It even allows you to back up your apps to your SD card and restore them later. Quite possibly one of the most useful free apps in the market.
Next, download from this link that says Low resolution version for Android 1.6 and up to your SD card, preferably via your PC. It's a zipped file, so you'll need to unzip or extract the files on the card. For that matter, you can unzip it on your PC and just copy the file that says HTC_IME to your card. Now, using Astro file manager, tap on the file that says HTC_IME and open and install it using Astro's app manager. If you do not already have third party apps enabld on the phone, it will prompt you to do so. Enable third party apps and install HTC_IME. When the install is complete, go into settings->Language and keyboard, and enable HTC_IME mod by checking the box next to it. Now exit settings and go anywhere on the phone that gives you a text box, like mail or messages. Do a LONG press in the text box and it will open a box that says "input method". Tap where it says input method. That will open another box. Tap on "HTC_IME mod" and voila`...you now have a microphone on your keyboard! Tap the microphone and it will act just like when you're doing a voice search, except it will recognize commands like "period", or "comma", or "question mark", or "exclamation point". If you speak clearly, it works very well! You'll find that you've lost the little key that makes the keyboard disappear...just use your "back" soft key.
Are ya feelin' the love yet?? Feel free to kudo me when you do.
D Dave
Every time someone says the phrase "brick your phone" it makes me extremely nervous, I have the file downloaded and on my SD card. What do you think the actual chances of bricking are?!

Somewhere between slim and none. But it is a litigious society we live in, eh? It's really a simple process, but some people have simple minds. Ya know what I mean? You know the type...the ones who can screw up an iron ball with a rubber mallet. If there's a way to mess this up...they'll find it.
I don't mind most of the bugs but the one that is bugging me most is my Facebook app is no longer working. When I click on the Facebook icon, go into News I get "Sorry" process com.facebook.katana...blah blah and Force close. This sucks as I use this to keep in touch....... Any others getting this o rknow how to fix it??
My weather animations work, I just didn't notice them. So to recap the factory data reset really did work for me, there are now no issues at all with my phone. I did have issues though as I mentioned after doing the OTA update.
Face book Sync issues
Found this on the HTC site posted by "mike" he wrote"I went into FB online and deleted any applications for HTC or Android, then changed my FB name to only letters. Then I went on the phone and deleted the FB for HTC sense from my phone (through the sync settings) and restarted the phone. Then I added the FB account back into my phone and voila!!! It started syncing with no error message."
I tried this and it worked! My phone is now working again. I am so excited!

Hey Dangerous....love the voice to text.....but one question...what is the other app in there? something like clicker?
Thanks
I also do not have a contact icon..I have a people icon, but this gives me all people in facebook and anyone else. I also do not have all contacts back, only got about 1/4 of them back..Is there a way to get a contact icon back, specifically for people i call only

I just came into the conversation - my signal strength has dropped so much that I'm not getting more than 2 bars and it is telling me 'No Service" in areas that I received service. I've done the *228 several times. Any solutions?
My wife and I both have same phone and updated at the same time. While I have few issues she is missing calls and having them drop constantly and she never gets more than one bar in the display. This is where we have similarity... the signal strenth is just abysmal. Ok, Apps are cool... but geez... the phone needs to work. Is that a way HTC was going to give us more battery life? I hope not.
Seriously wishing I had an iPhone.
I just switched to Verizon a couple months ago because I wanted their service. I loved my phone ... until this new upgrade.
Lost a lot of my contacts, most apps constantly forceclose, half the time I can't even make a simple phone call, screens freeze all the time, issues with txting where nothing shows up while typing. Is my phone a defect or are others having these problems as well??
I agree MrHost. . A hard reset will take care of most if not all issues. I did it to resolve a Data Moble issue , and I was running the 2.1 leak version 3.
I strongly urge all those who say they keep losing their contacts...to go to GMail on thier PC's/Mac and update their Contacts there instead of your phones...it's simpler and cleaner.
Any apps purchased will not dissapear from the market place . However , any free apps downloaded WILL disappear if you reboot your phone after the reset. is complete,.so make a backup of your apps using Astro File manager..they are saved to your SD Card. Clarification ....your downloads will still be there , but any downloads not installed after the reset and you reboot (turn off/on) will disappear. Go for it, you will be much happier!
