How to disable voice mail update notifications

Since updating to KitKat on my Samsung Note 3, I keep getting regular notifications that my voice mail service has been updated. How can I disable these notifications? Looking in the App Manager, I can't turn off the app or disable notifications. It's really annoying. I use Google Voice and don't want these continual notifications. Please advise.

With the S4 I go into Settings More Tab / Application Manager / All Tab Scroll Down to the culprit Voice Mail Tap it and when it opens you should see a way to make it suffer. 1st I Punch em in the Force Stop button and then kick em in the Show Notifications Box and ee's down I Slam The Hammer Down on the TURN OFF BUTTON. Then when I want I just call Voice Mail *86

There is no way to turn this app off on my samsung s5. For days now I have this constant annoying update/subscribe message. I am using google voice as well and do not wish to change. There must be a way to disable this

Same issue on GS5. This is really unacceptable. I have been using a superior google voice product for years and now Verizon is basically forcing me to use their product or they will continue to spam my notifications. If anything they are driving me to root and freeze which I am sure they would rather not have me do, because then I am getting rid of all of their apps.

Please address this, Verizon! I called a Verizon Rep and she put me on hold to ask her team. She came back and told me to go in to application manager, find the voicemail app, force stop and then clear data. I told her I've tried this already but would try it again. Of course the notification came back which I told her. She clearly had no other suggestions to offer me. Rather than keeping at her, I let her off the hook and told her "I suppose I'll just have to deal with this notification vibrating/beeping every time I clear my notifications hu?" She had no response and asked if there was anything else she could help with. This is ridiculous and annoying!! The option to suppress notifications from the Voicemail app is grayed out. I suppose they want us to root the phone and delete the app hu? PLEASE ADDRESS THIS!!

I have the exact same problem. I use google voice mail. Don't want this awful app on my phone. Please disable this. It wakes me up at night.

I am also having this issue. So much for updating my phone. Now, with the worst timing, like in the middle of the night, this notification pops up. Just walk into a quiet room and it goes off. I have cleared data and there is no option to turn off the notifications. I really don't want to have to root my phone considering I've barely had it three months. The most annoying thing is that it will pop up after JUST making it go away. It didn't even come with a way to actually CHECK the visual voicemail. Poke the voicemail app and it calls voicemail instead. Genius.

I tried clearing cache and it went away for about 4 hours and came back. Verizon? Not even a "We see there is an issue and we'll look at it?" This is so annoying. I'm researching Towelroot.com unfortunately. I've only had my S5 for a few months and didn't want to root but having a false notification every 10 minutes that I can't get rid of seems like a worthy reason to root at this point.

1. Slide top bar down with all the notifications.

2. Press/hold Verizon voice mail notification.

3. Force stop...then do down and DESTOY I mean....disable app.

Thanks but there is no "disable app" available as you mentioned.

Yes...force stop is the only action you can take.

I did notice it comes back...I can not believe Verizon makes you choose this application and no chance to disable.

Try going into application manager and instead of clearing data on the voicemail app, clear data on the phone app.

Ok...this has been a ongoing process.

1. Samsung Galaxy S5 users....I activated or (subscribed) to visual voice mail, then unsubscribed.

This knocked off the Subscribe Notification from keep popping up.

2. Here is the kicker...visual voice mail has a $2.99 a month charge. With this new phone ( I don't know about other

new phones) it is a free service from Verizon. Verizon needs to get up to date with their service.

The way "they" (Verizon) named the plans is causing confusion -

Basic Voicemail - free, on basic phones and some smartphones

Visual Voicemail - $2.99/month, for basic and some smartphones

Basic Visual Voicemail - free, on some smartphones (4G? but not all, LTE capable? Android 4.4.4 or higher?)

Premium Visual Voicemail - $2.99/month

There is a chart, noted in another thread on this topic that I don't have handy atm. It shows all these flavors and what comes with each, but it doesn't specify which phones have which options available.

Hopefully everyone sees this:

After 2 weeks of notifications alerting me to update my voice mail I figured it out. When I first set it up I was given a 4 digit pin to give to a Verizon CSR. When I told the rep on the phone that day he had no clue what the pin was for. Turns out it was important. So, after calling and having my visual voice mail blocked (which didn't work and instead barred me from ALL voicemail...) and calling two more CSRs I was able to talk to ONE Verizon employee who knew what was going on because she herself dealt with it.

My advice is to call, have them reset the voicemail completely and you will have to clear data from the Voicemail app and reset your phone a couple times so call from another phone. Now I have a month trial of premium visual voicemail and that ridiculous notification is gone.

Where did you get the pin? I just got my s5 today and I'm already ready to throw it out the window because of that notification!

The first time the Voicemail app updated and I poked it to set it up it showed me a 4 digit pin. I recommend calling Verizon first thing in the morning by calling from a landline or another phone than your S5. Tell them you need technical support for visual voicemail. They'll ask you to perform a few very easy tasks and turn your phone off a time or two, hence why you need to call from another phone.

I was given 1 month of full visual voicemail to try and after the month I "should" be prompted as to whether or not I want to continue. At $2.99 per month and with as few people who call me I will personally not be using this feature. It works for the most part. If your friends/relatives speak with a thick accent or too quickly it will show wrong words or "??????".

The basic visual voicemail is supposedly free on the S5 but I guess we'll see if that is true. Good luck, Pilot.

I went to Verizon Support Chat. They said...

What I can do is place a visual voicemail block on your line which will stop the notifications that you are receiving , how does that sound ?

I did that, we'll see if it works.

It did not. I still get the voicemail update notification after they blocked visual voicemail.

I had them try the block too but it still kept notifying me. Like I said above, they had to completely reset my voicemail, password and had me clear data from the voicemail app, restart my phone, clear data again, restart again and then the visual voicemail worked like it should. I haven't seen the update since they set it back up for me.

Hopefully something comes from all of this... like a huge update to fix it for everyone.

All I did was call Verizon about the constant notification to update to "Visual Voice Mail" and she said SHE WOULD DISABLE THOSE NOTIFICATIONS from occurring on my Galaxy S5 cell - no problem. I told her I was not interested in that service (At $2.99 every month) and am happy to use their (free) regular voice mail. Done.

THIS IS RESOLUTION OF A 2ND PROBLEM. (not with the offer/reminder to get Visual Voice Mail at $2.99 mo) I began getting 5-6 notifications every day saying my voice mail had been updated... to click to set it up. (which it has been FOR YEARS)... Then it just went to the window that said "no new voice mails". After calling TWO different Verizon reps (both Tech I level)... neither of them knew how to correct it. BUT, I got transferred to a LEVEL II TECH --(HE SAID I DID "NOT HAVE TO" update my cell to the new Lollipop 5.0 -that was not the problem) and here is the answer/solution of getting rid of those constant notifications: You have to call Verizon to get this new "Basic Visual Voicemail". WE had the OLD dial *86 voice mail app feature---so the Tech had me power down my cell, then he DID HIS THING on his end... had me power up and VOILA' - now have the NEWER visual voicemail which is basic and no extra charge (it's not the Premium version). Now, we don't have to put a password in... plus can press a button to either HEAR our message OR even read THE TEXT of it... all for the same (FREE) as before. You can put the message in the trashcan above, or click on the Menu in the upper right corner to hit "Save"... the message playback is like a video control at the lower bottom. Arrow to play, Speaker phone choice, forward arrow and back arrow. Easy Peasy. Hope this helps others!
