We are full time RVrs and thru the Winter spend most of our time at the 1000 Trails Pio Pico Preserve which is located at 14615 Otay Lakes Road; Jamul, CA, 91935. There are 400 sites in the preserve and the rules limit the time members can stay. I would suggest an average stay of 2 weeks, thus you are dealing with 10,000 potential users on an annual basis. The Preserve is in a series of shallow valleys East of Chula Vista and cell phone service by any provider can only be obtained by one of these two methods:
1) Climb the hill till you get line of sight from a tower someplace.
2) Buy a Wilson antennae and power booster (but the man who sold these in the past died)
Now entering the scene is AT&T who has obtained an option on a hilltop site in the Preserve and is arranging for a cell phone tower to be erected. A contractor has been selected and done some site prep work.Current promise of completion is 3rd quarter this year.
My purpose of writing is to alert the Verizon decision makers of AT&T's actions, and further to ask if Verizon intends to piggy back on the AT&T tower.
If Verizon does something to provide service at Pio Pico,I will probably upgrade one of my phones to one that will give me InterNet connectivity since the WiFi at the Preserve sucks and is too expensive to boot.
If Verizon does not do something to provide service, I guess they will force me to switch to AT&T
I would like to hear from somebody in Verizon's real estate or planning department on this.
