Why Complain?

I feel like people are never satisfied with what they have.

You (including me) who own a Droid Eris, have one of the best phones available in the US, yet I've been reading countless complaints about lack of an update, or you want something new already.

Granted, Verizon has made a lot of promises and is NOT holding true to their word, you still have a near perfect phone that has no real problems, and it should do everything you need a PHONE to do.

So, this may not be read by anyone, and it may not serve any real purpose to stop people from complaining, but please, stop complaining. You have an awesome phone, and if it gets updated, AWESOME!

But until then, people should really calm down and just enjoy an awesome phone!

I agree with the spirit of your post, but there are a few things that are incorrect.

Verizon has never "promised" anything. In fact, HTC, Motorola, or Verizon has *never* promised any update to anyone. They have said they were going to do it, but I don't think any business lead would ever be as foolish to promise something they aren't 10,000% sure that they can accomplish.

I agree 100 percent. Also, it's just a telephone. It's not a house or car or something of signifcance. It's just a freaking phone.

From what I'm reading, people believe and act like they HAVE been promised something and continue to bash HTC and VZW for their lack of follow-through.

Instead of promises, I should have said lead-ons.

It seems to me there are three types of Eris owners... those who robustly demand more than what they have been given, those who do what they can with what they are given, and those who are completely oblivious to the topic of "updates" and "promises" completely

While we're on the topic of "Not" complaining.....

1) Don't complain that Eris 2.1 doesn't run Live Wallpaper (its just not powerful enough)

2) Don't complain that Google Earth doesn't run or even startup (its just not powerful enough)

3) Don't complain that it runs slow sometimes (its just not powerful enough)

etc,etc...

It's a great phone with plenty of extras that run GREAT, be happy with that (=

I'm happy with my Eris, but understand it's not the Moto-Droid or the Nexus or Hal from 2001 (well, its prob more powerful then Hal giving Moore's Law...lol).

Anyhow... what I always LOVE on this board is the ONE post posters... you know the ones that leave a 500 word essay about how much Verizon sucks and the phones suck.. then we never hear from them again... classic (and maybe paid spammers?).

I'm a happy go lucky Verizon person... mainly because I have a 5 line account and leaving would bankrupt me... :smileywink:

Let me see if I've got this right. Verizon said they were going to update the Eris, but they didn't use the word "promise". Therefore, since the word "promise" wasn't used, it's okay for them to not do what they said they were going to do.

That's one of the biggest piles of apologist (bleep) I've heard in a while. It's okay for a company to not to do what they said they were going to do because they didn't use the word "promise" despite the fact that people made purchases based on their non-promise. Do you work for VZW in their legal department? TOO FUNNY!!!!

i normally don't like getting involved w/ these complaining type posts re: the Eris update but i have to agree w/ some of you on here. i am SICK TO DEATH of reading about 'where is my 2.0/2.1 Eris update'? it's posted on here several times a week it seems like by different ones. why don't you research before posting new threads about the same gripe. actually, it seems like it's almost every other subject, just have different titles. OMG!

i must say though, not sure if you wanna call it misleading or lead-on, but when i purchased my Eris, the salesman told me out his mouth, why spend $100 more when you are going to get the same thing on the cheaper phone. he said the update will make the Eris just as good as the Moto which he liked the Eris better. he also made it seem like the update was going to be on the phone w/in 2 wks. that was 8Feb. Prior to my purchase with him, i had other VZW reps tell me almost the same thing even though most of them preferred the Moto over the Eris. i feel the store reps should not be using the update as a selling point. as i mentioned in another post, if they want the customer to know, they should say 'there is a POSSIBILITY the phone will be updated to a higher OS but the release date is unknown. could be a week, could be several months, or maybe not all. no details at ths time'. they should not be telling people, it's coming in Jan, or end of 1Q unless they have a confirmed date.

however, i am ABSOLUTELY happy with what i have. i didn't want that ugly Moto phone. i LOVE my Eris. it's my first smartphone & it does everything i want including being a phone. it's the first phone i ever had where the call quality was like a land-line; nice & clear. if i get no update, i would be just a tad disappointed but not angry b/c it's doing what i need & i agreed to accept the phone as is when i purchased it. if i really needed all that other stuff, i would of spent $100 more. the complainers should of paid extra so they wouldn't be so stressed out. i know my post is long & drawn out, but can we PLEASE move on to some other topics besides 'where is my update'?

He makes a good point about duplicate posts and people not searching before asking questions that have been answered time and time again. Just makes it harder to find useful info.

If you describe being bitter as expecting a company to do what they say they'll do, then I guess I'm guilty. I guess I expect people/a company to back up its words with actions. And most reputable ones do. I guess you are so jaded as to not have honest expectations of someone keeping their word. How sad.

As for those that are sick of reading about complaints about VZ, the updates, etc, all I have to say is too bad. These are public forums. Don't like the comments? Don't read them. If people didn't voice their dissatisfaction, repeatedly even, how would VZ ever know it's an issue? So get over yourselves. Or go find the "let's praise VZW regardless of what they do" forums.
