and I still have 13 months left on my contract! How can I switch to a pay as you go plan? The only thing I can lower is the text and that would save $20...but that is still not enough.

You can't switch to a pay as you go plan until you fulfill your contract.
There has to be some way...pretty soon I won't be able to pay the $100/month...and I have been a customer of theirs for 10+ years and tried out the plan with data...I barely use it and cannot afford it.
Like rcschnoor stated, you cannot.
They will not let you out of your contract early.
Usually it's good to make sure you can pay for the service before you sign a 2-year agreement on it.
Telling us how long you've been a customer does not modify the decision........
Good Luck :smileyhappy:

Does this mean you switched from a basic phone to a smartphone? If so, simply re-activate your old basic phone and cancel the data plan.
I feel the pain... I have been a content Verizon customer for more then ten + years as well and recently found myself in a financial situation that required my lowering my expenses, cell phone services were on the list. So I discussed my issues with customer service and he was very pleasant. I was told that my contract expiration date would not change (6/mo remaining) instead when I decided to remove one line from service I found out that I had a NEW 2 year contract. OUCH ... I had a difficult time paying the reduced services, now I am having to pay for ETF of $440.00. My understanding was that you can change your services "during" your contract without penalty. Has anyone else experienced situation?
I have not. I have changed my plan multiple times in the past without affecting my contract date. The most recent change was made Thursday, Feb 13, 2014. My contract dates are the same as before the change.
