Can I use my devices on a cruise?

I need a straight answer on what to do please.

We will be on a cruise ship going to jamaica, aruba, curcacao, and St thomas. What I want to do is send and receive text messages only no phone calls unless emergency, NO Email, no games (unless they don't use data) no Facebook etc. Only want to be able to speak to my kids via text they will be on the ship with me just to locate them. I have a Samsung galaxy s4 amd my kids have a iPhone and iphone4. What do I need to do? Please help thanks
