I get this message whenever I turn on my Galaxy S3
Try going to app Mgr all tab and for stop clear data and Uninstaller updates on google+
I've been getting the same error on my LG G3 every time I reboot my phone. I have no idea what that service is though. Count me in as someone else looking for this answer.
I am getting the same message. I am not even sure what it is or how to fix it.
I don't have the answer, but I found that this issue just began for me on or around August 12th when I updated the Google+ app via the Google Play Store. I saw that some other users were having a similar issue, so I uninstalled the Google+ update and the error went away. I updated the app again, and the error returned. I'd like to know what this service is responsible for in the first place.
LG G3
I, too, am getting this annoying message every time I boot up my phone (Galaxy S3). I have noticed also that my phone gets Hot to the touch quickly and the battery drains fast. I hope verizon puts in a fix to this quickly as I have not found anything anywhere to fix it on my own.
I am getting the same message "VZWAVS Service has stopped" every time I turn on the Galaxy S5. Yes, like everyone else, it just started recently. I know that AVS stands for Address Verification System, VZ stands for Verizon. What the W stands for I have no idea. And, I have no idea whether I need VZWAVS for anything. So far, the error message is simply annoying; I can't see that it affects anything operationally.

VZW is VeriZon Wireless.

You nailed it, TK216 . I was getting this error when rebooting the phone, which I don't do that often. Uninstalled the G+ updates, error did not appear on reboot. I have auto updates set up, and once the phone connected to my wifi, it downloaded the G+ update, and I didn't even need to restart - the "Unfortunately, VZWAVSService has stopped" error popped up as soon as the install was finished..
I'm leaving the update in place for G+, for now, since I rarely reboot the phone, and so far, it doesn't seem to affect anything else. If other things start getting weird, further investigation may be warranted.
How come lots of people including myself has this error message "
The fix is to remove the Google + app and don’t allow auto updates or it will just re-install it.
I did that but now my fone kept on rebooting. :smileysad:
We appreciate you trying the resolution the other customers have found, Anna31084. With your phone rebooting, this may be a different issue all together. Is it constantly rebooting or does it reboot while you're trying to use something in particular on the phone? Did this start after you uninstalled the Google update that others mentioned? I guess it's my turn! I haven't touched my phone all day and now I am also getitng this message on my Samsung S5. I am also having an internet problem. Facebook won't update, tried doing a couple Google searches, nothing responding. My home internet is just fine so know it isn't that. Looks like a trip to the Verizon store is in order and hoping someone there will be able to fix it.
Did you try to Uninstall updates for google+ in the app manager?
I think verizon need to fix this with a technical update. what is taking
them so long to do this?

Verizon Tech Services:
I have a Samsung S5 and have been getting this same error too since this evening (8/21/14.) The only issue besides the error message is that all the color is gone from my phone. Everything is black & white. I have tried both fixes suggested, rebooted and it's fine for a few seconds, then the message pops up and back to blavk/white. Any other ideas?
Yes a vcloud backup and a factory data reset. If you try this please post if worked . thanks a bunch
Try this but do it cautiously shut the phone Down then pull the Sim Card out as I mentioned cautiously meaning handle the card with care and try an not to touch the Gold area of it, remove it for about 10min. then reinstall the card and then Re-power the phone see if the issue goes away if it does it then you should be fine, It just may of been the phone needed to re-established with the Network.!
Hope this Helps Good Luck b33
I just got the lg3 3g last Fri ... I uninstalled. The new update for Google

VZW stands for Verizon Wireless. The W stands for wireless.
verizon agent:, will you tell us what vzwavs does and what happens when it stops as we are all experiencing?
Great idea. Let's find out what it does. Not working doesn't seem to affect anything.
Im getting this same error on my S4
I got my new phone a few days back and started to experience the error message plus heating issue today. The phone becomes warm shortly after powered on which I thought it's a defective phone. I have reset the phone a few times but the heat problem does not go away. Now, the phone seem to cool down. Gee, this is a serious software problem if it's caused by G+ update. Hopefully, the phone is not damaged in anyway...
Hi all! I've been dealing with the same message and am experiencing all that you have shared as well. It turns out that avs- stands for address verification system. This service had originally come with my new galaxy phone on a trial basis. I remember receiving several messages warning me that the service would expire soon. So, no more caller ID.
I believe the only way you can get rid of the error is by uninstalling Google+ (or the latest Google+ update, if you know how to do that). The thing is, I'd like to keep Google+, so it would be nice to be able to keep it and maybe get rid of the VZWAVSSERVICE instead. Anyway, I hope someone comes up with a solution to keep both without incurring an error.
Ok. So I started getting the messay tonight. I tried a few of the things some of you suggested. I'm STILL getting it. Verizon Tech, instead of responding to other concerns that people are having, why don't you PLEASE address the topic at hand 1st? It would be greatly appreciated! We didn't pay an arm and a leg for a new phone (s5) for it to start having problems 2 1/2 months later. That is why I left my last provider.

I have the same problem.
ronthetech,I am so sorry to hear you are receiving this error message. Lets put an end to this error. Have you already accessed the Settings and Application manager on your device and uninstalled the Google update? What type of device do you have?LindseyT_VZWFollow us on Twitter @VZWSupport
Lindsey Verizon Wireless Customer Support that may stop the error from showing up, but it really isn't an option for those of us that use Google+. Can you simply just tell us what that service is, what it does, and what apps or functionality depends on it and we can decide whether or not that is the service that should be disabled. While that is not the best option either...as it doesn't address the root cause...I would much rather uninstall/disable something that I may not need and keep the one I use.
Hello I have the same problem with my Samsung galaxy s5, they realize there is a problem but to fix it for now you have to go into app. manager and go to google + and uninstall updates and then you have to go to app store and tell it not to update apps because once it updates again the message will come back.It works on my s5.
The AVSService is the Address Verification System Service. It is used primarily by banks to verify over the phone credit card purchases. If the service is not working, then the bank cannot verify your address and may very well suspend or deny the charge until they are able to verify your address. The AVSService is also used by Enhanced 911 to verify the address of incoming emergency calls. When Verizon upgraded Android Kit Kat a few days ago to version 4.4.2.1 or something, it screwed up the AVSService. The problem appears to be tied to Google+. I e-mailed Verizon about this, four days ago, but they have completely ignored me.
I should add that Verizon has been aware of the problem for days now. A couple of days ago, the news media got hold of the fact that Verizon Wireless customers were unable to contact 911 on their Android phones. Verizon promptly issued a statement that they were aware of the problem and had "fixed it". Fixing it simply means that they told people, what most people now know, to uninstall the Google + update, and turn off automatic updates. That is not fixing the problem, that is slapping a Band Aid on it, and trying to look good to the public, when in fact it was Verizon that broke the system in the first place.
LindseyT_VZW, what you are suggesting that we do to remedy the problem is completely unacceptable. You can do all the finger pointing that you want and blame the problem on Google, but I can tell you that there sure as hell is no chance that Google is going to release a new update because the previous one interfered with one of Verizon's services. It would be ridiculous to even expect them to! THIS IS A VERIZON PROBLEM. Don't tell us to roll back our Google plus update to solve the problem, you need to figure out how we can solve the problem with this VERIZON SERVICE without having to sacrifice keeping up-to-date with our other application. AGAIN, YOUR background service is causing the problem. Google plus is not the source of the problem. You need to update the service so that it stops interfering with other application updates or you need to get rid of it. EITHER WAY, lets not be coy here, we know that this is a VERIZON PROBLEM. ANYONE who is reading this, don't roll back your Google plus updates or disable google updates. It is ridiculous for Verizon to request that you do so. REMEMBER: YOU ARE PAYING VERIZON FOR A SERVICE, and, in turn, they are expected to hold up their end and perform that service properly. This malfunctioning background service is something that Verizon is forcing you to have on your phone and they are prioritizing it over your other applications when in fact it is the source of your problems. Verizon won't tell us what the service is so it must not be that important. What I would do is just go ahead and force stop and turn off the VZWAVSServices in your application manager.
Are you kidding me? Let me get this straight so once you get the error your phones don't function for texts calls data pretty much bricked huh? Not. What's the big deal? I've seen these things come and go. It's a security feature be thankful. Yes I know vzw is a black hole in which nothing escapes especially your funds.
Like it or not, this is not a Verizon problem. The problem was caused by the Android update of the Kit Kat OS. Any phone using Kit Kat with the latest upgrade is having the same problem, regardless of the provider.
Doing a little research I read that this issue may be an ISIS App issue as well as Google+. Is there anything you can say to confirm this? I use both apps and don't want to uninstall something that I use on a regular basis. Also, I've read a little about this having something to do with the battery getting hot, is this true as well?
gkbugarat,I know this error message can be a pain. I'm sorry to hear you're device is experiencing the issue. As a temporary workaround we have been asking customers to clear data/force stop Google and VZWAVSService. It has not become clear exactly what may be causing the error message. You may want to test your phone in safe mode as well. It potentially could be a conflict between other third party applications on the device. You can find directions for safe mode on our support page; http://bit.ly/yN1P80 .You'll have to search for your paticular model of andriod that you have.Let us know how it goes!TrevorC_VZW Follow us on Twitter @VZWSupport
I have gotten this same message on my s5. I just got the phone on 8/15 and activated it that night. Right after i got it activated it said that exact message.
When starting the phone it says unfortunately the vzwavsservice has stopped.
Go to Settings > Applications > All > and scroll down till you get to VZWAVSService - and turn it off. It's turning itself off and not being used anyway, so manually turning it off simply prevents the popup message on rebooting. It doesn't get to the root of the problem as to why it's stopping, but it does allow you to keep Google + updated and not get the error, until they figure out a better fix.
Definitely go with the disabling the VZWAVSSERVICE service vice killing the Google+ updates. It's far better to make sure the OS (Google+) is updated than some service no one has any idea of its function.
I've had the same problems with my S5.
I have rolled back updates and stopped Google+
I have cleared the data and stopped / turned off VZWAVSServices App.
My question is this... around the same time this stared, my phone stopped successfully working as a wireless hotspot. I can set up the network, other devices either can't see it, can't connect, or briefly connect before disconnecting.... and then the hotspot no longer works. I have trouble thinking the two problems started at the same time by coincidence. Has anyone else had trouble with really using the phone as a hotspot with this problem as well?
Google+ is not the operating system, it is merely an app to play games, buy things, access social media etc. The operating system is Android Kit Kat. The AVS Service is what allows banks to verify your address when you try to make a purchase over your phone, and it is what allows 911 to verify your address when you make an Emergency call. If it is not working, there is a chance that your purchases will not go through, and you might not be able to get through to 911, if Google+ is not working, you might not be able to play Candy Crush. OMG!
I'm having the same issue/error. Also, has anyone else noticed, since you started getting the VZWAVS error on reboot, that your gmail push has stopped working? It may just be coincidence, but about the time I started seeing this error, push for gmail and google voice stopped working as well--I have to open both applications for them to sync...
The push for my Gmail and Google Voice seems to be working just fine with this error. I have neither disabled the VZWAVSService or Google+ and still get the message the few times I reboot my phone.
I HAVE disabled the VZWAVSService, have the updated Google+, no longer get the "Service has stopped" (it's disabled!) and my Gmail and G+ notifications have not stopped at any point, even when I WAS getting the error. I funnel several email accounts through my Gmail, and would notice if it stopped pushing - emails are coming in constantly!
It like everything else should be able to be updated.
I wonder if something like this also shares some relationship to NFC and other pay-using-phone services similar to ISIS wallet, like Google Wallet. Could these crashes be removed or otherwise eliminated by having NFC turned on?
I have KitKat on my S3 and have never seen this error appear. Another S3 which I was replacing for a co-worker, experienced this error only once, during which time I was updating all of the applications on their phone.
I just started having this problem today, on my new Samsung G5. Because of it, I cannot send messages. I've tried rebooting and taking the battery out, clean master, disabling Google+, etc, but nothing is making a difference. This needs FIXED!
This is the first I have heard of any messages being prevented from sending. What kind of messages?
Just general text messages. I seem to be able to receive them though, and get calls. I always get an error saying 'messages not sent', and it started at the same time as the 'Unfortunately, VZWAVSService has stopped', which is why I was assuming they are connected.
Have you tried clearing your Message caches that might help.. I haven't had the issues one's have experienced but as I stated I keep my caches in check and I cycle my phones at least once or twice a Day.! have been doing this for the last 4 years..
So angry bought the s5 in may have had that shutting down as well as galaxy platform and we'll sometimes just my phone. Everyone at Verizon has been completely useless!! They have acres like theu have never heard of and then send me a replacement only for it to happen again and again. Today Jamal asked me if I wanted to upgrade...I bought the dam thing 4 months ago ...what a joke!! Since the erected are so many problems maybe someone at Verizon should figure out the problem and fix I know I pay them enough money
Calm down.
First off, it seems like this has something to do with the latest version of Google+. Second, it doesn't seem to do any harm.
Have you read this entire thread, and the others with similar topics?
I think the aggravating part is that I've been on the phone with Verizon a half a dozen times and they act like they have never heard of the problem
Ok, So I have an S3, I know, loser that I am... and this message just appeared today. In fact, it has caused my network to not be found and I can not send or receive text messages nor calls. I have force stopped Google + and VZWAVS and I have them turned off, and rebooted the phone. I also uninstalled updates for those, plus VZ navigator, Samsung acct and Google Search. Nothing has helped!
My S5 just got upgraded to kitkat 4.4.4 and the problem with vzwwavsservice is fixed!
Nice b
I have an S3 and disabled only the VZWAVSService. I use G+ and don't use the phone payment service. The phone restarted fine with no error messages.
What is the phone payment service you referred to BJNicholls, please. I turned off ISIS wallet whatever that is.
From what I read earlier in this thread, the VZW AVS Service allows for secure credit transactions. I assume that means ISIS wallet since Verizon blocks Google Wallet payment. I don't do phone point of sale payments via either, so turning off AVS doesn't affect me.
Its google+. Go and uninstall any updates from your apps on the play store. My Droid Maxx had been doing the same thing ever since the kitkat update.

I've made purchases via phone (VZW AVS Sercive is disabled) from both PayPal and Google Wallet and no problems there, either.
I still have no idea what this service really does and Verizon is not saying anything either.
I just updated to kitkst 4.4.4. No more error message.
Vzw avs has stopped is a software issue happening with androids, Verizon does not make the software updates. If you continue having issues call Verizon for troubleshooting. I get calls about it all the time in Verizon customer service.
Multi old verizon apps in background taking over newer ones. Clear data cache Un installed Google play. Then did a factory reset hasn't done it since. Oh clear all cache also

I am still getting this. But only when I reboot my phone. I deleted a bunch of unnecessary apps too. I think this is the reason my phone is running so slow and it's starting to get really frustrating. I haven't even had the phone (GS5) a full 5 months. Ridiculous.
If you have a GS5, go to settings > system updates and press "check for new software update." Although it says something about a Bluetooth fix, it includes other fixes and also upgrades your phone to KitKat 4.4.4.
Problem fixed.

FACTORY RESET DOES NOTHING PROBLEM COMES RIGHT BACK
I started getting this message tonight, immediately after the Verizon store put an NFC SE SIM card in my Samsung Galaxy S3. So I'm not sure it's strictly a Google+ issue.
The motion on my live wallpapers stutters sometimes now too, after the new SIM card was installed. I think I'm gonna go back tomorrow and hopefully get my original SIM card back. Forget the Soft Card app, I'm probably going to get an iPhone 6 anyway.
I'd also like to know why this post is showing my real name instead of the screen name I entered when I created this account just now. What a total bunch of crap.
Oh I see, screen name shows up if I'm not logged in. Sorry to start complaining on my first post here.
Anyway, I think this may also be a SIM card issue, or at least that has something to do with it. It appears to be the direct cause on my phone.
Check out this discussion, worked for me.
I hate to bring this discussion up again, but I do have something important to add. I have an Samsung S3 from Verizon that I use on Page Plus 4G (Sorry Verizon!). I just reflashed the software to factory and have stock 4.4.2 Android, currently un-rooted. I noticed the VZWAVSService has stopped error start occurring shortly after all the app updates ran.
I did notice something else however. I like to use the Onavo Extend data compression app to get 2x to 4x more data out of my mobile plan. The Onavo app starts crashing constantly, and then reloading itself. I believe this happened after the VZWAVSService service stopped functioning. On the previous install of the same Android OS, the Onavo Extend app DID work for a while. Now that I think about it, I believe the VZWAVSService crashing occurred about the same time as Onavo started crashing.
I am going to factory reset the phone and see if I can get Onavo to work before doing any updates at all. Will try to update on a post. If anyone knows about this, let me know! Thanks
My wife's Samsung Galaxy S3 is going through the same issue. It's been confirmed that the problem is fixed with kitkat 4.4.4. Apparently her S3 is currently on 4.4.2.
When will Verizon push update 4.4.4 to the S3 lineup?

Go to settings, application manager, all, VZWAVS service...force stop, stop notifications, clear data and cache and turn off.
I have the same issue after two days of having the galaxy s3. Which is what i have wanted for the longest time. I don't do anything to cause this error. Now will some one please tell me how to fix it? Or do i just have to live with the annoying pop up?
The VZW AVS Service is obviously Verizon’s app that runs in the background. Only the provider knows what the service does. But the thing is, it’s not actually the service that causes the error message, it’s the newly updated Google apps. It seems there’s a conflict between this service and Gapps. Try to go to Application Manager and find Google+. There’s a button there that says Uninstall Updates, hit it and that should fix the problem. To prevent this error messages from popping up in the future, disable vzwavsservice.http://thedroidguy.com/2014/11/fix-common-samsung-galaxy-s3-problems-errors-glitches-part-49-100210
This needs to be in the handbook. For future reference. Bc some of your
customers needs to know the ins and outs of the devices that you sell. Bc
honestly some of us are not tech smart! Most of the cellular smart phones
were easier to actually figure out. Please inform me if there's anyone more
bugs i need to be informed about for the phone.
I am not a Verizon employee. I only assist where I can like all the other members on the community forums. One would think that the S3 would have most of its bugs worked out by now given its age. But there is rumor that 5.0 could reach some S3s this year. At least the AT&T ones.
I've read thru everything on this post to-date. I have been getting the "unfortunately VZWAVSservice has stopped working" message on my S3. It does seem to have started around the same time as the Google+ update. Since then, Google Maps would only work if I was at home (though it would continue to a destination, as long as I started from home). I tried the suggested fixes, with several failures along the way, and now Google Maps can now ONLY pull up my own home when I am AT home and cannot do ANY directions whatsoever.
1) I tried going to Storage and clearing the cache - fail. It just says calculating for the cached data value (as well as most others) and though it ACTS like it is clearing the cache nothing actually seems to change. Restarting the phone caused no change to this.
2) I tried clearing the cache and clearing data for VZWAVSService - fail. It just says they're computing and they are grayed out. Restarting the phone caused no change to this.
3) I tried the same for Google+ - fail. Same result as #2.
4) I tried uninstalling Google+ updates - fail. It says it is uninstalling but never seems to finish doing so.
5) I tried turning VZWAVSservice off. I was able to do so, however there was no change in the phone's behavior. I turned it back on. On or off didn't seem to affect behavior.
Has anyone else had the mapping issue associated with this error message and is there a solution for it?
It's a location services based error it seems. Try marking Location to Mode: High Accuracy and see if that helps. As far as mapping apps, Nokia Here Maps is hands-down the best. It has offline navigation with turn by turn and doesn't need data once you download the map..not cache the map, but download and save the map. Works wonderfully. Now it is out of beta and has regular updates.
Snn5, I had previously tried your suggestion of setting the Location mode to High accuracy – another fail. However I just downloaded and tried Nokia Here and it works beautifully. Thank you for that suggestion!
Yeah, I'm pretty impressed with it as well. Caching a small area on G Maps was ok, but having directions on Here Maps is a lot more beneficial. I'm on a small data plan, so this was a no-brainer for me.
