Forced upgrade

Dear VZW,

Thank you ever so gorram much for not bothering to tell me up front that activation of my new phone requires me to upgrade to the 2GB data plan.

I didn't use all of the 300MB plan.

I didn't use all of the 500MB plan when you "upgraded" me.

I'm not using anywhere near the 1GB plan that I've been upgraded to now.

And now you're arbitrarily (the phone does NOT require the plan, YOU require it) forcing me to pay more for something I'll never use.

I left T-Mobile a year and a half ago when they tried to pull the same bovine effluence on me. I switched to VZW because you had the best reputation for service and coverage, even though you're the most expensive carrier. Now you're no better than Tmo or Sprint.

Verizon wireless can make no changes unless made by your actions and consent.

You bought a new device, what device did you have previously? was it a basic phone? Now you have a smartphone and data plans are required. It is called "Cause & effect"

I doubt Verizon goes around changing everyone's plans at their whim.

Verizon has data plans as low as 250 MB.

Thank you for reminding me to THINK, because I don't do it all day every day (even when I'm trying not to).

I switched from a Lumia 822 to an HTC 8X. The 8X came today but refused to activate. I called the support number and was informed by the CSR that "This phone requires a 2GB data plan in order to activate. If you don't have the plan, it won't work." I called (removed) in detail and at length. The CSR offered to bump my 1GB plan to 2GB temporarily to get me online, then back down to 1GB once everything was set up. She was unable to either change my plan or activate my phone, put me on hold while attempting to transfer me to an actual tech, and then hung up on me.

Of course I called back, warned the next guy of what had just happened and that I was in no mood to be jerked around further. He tried to activate the 8X and failed. He successfully transferred me to the tech, who got me running. I asked him about the 2GB thing. He said he'd never heard anything like that. So it seems the first CSR was trying to upsell me based on lies.

That's if they OP wants to switch to the More Everything Plans.

It sounds like they were on the Nationwide Plan with the promotional 300 MB individual data plan. Granted, the More Everything Plan might actually be less expensive than the plan they have now with the 2 GB individual tiered data plan.

Except he says he left T-Mobile a year and a half ago which would be 18 month which would be Sept 2012. At which point they would have had no choice but be on a Share Everything plan not a Nationwide plan.
