Keep phone number and go to lowest priced plan possible?

My current contract ends this summer. At that time I'm looking to minimize my bill but still keep the same phone number.

The company I work for gave me a Verizon smartphone and pays for the plan. This phone plus my personal Verizon smart phone means I have two Verizon smart phones! I use my work phone all the time and hardly use my personal phone anymore. My boss is OK with me using my work phone for non work related calls. My goal when my contract up is to minimize my personal plan to save some money. I would still like to keep my personal phone number as I've had it for over 10 years. I'm wondering what my options could be to do this? Ideally, a pre-paid plan would be perfect. I'm OK with getting rid of the smart phone as I don't need two of them. If I could keep my number and get a pre-paid plan with a basic phone that would be great. Does anyone know if this is possible?
