On my old droid phone I could record any sound and then save it and it would then show up in my settings along with all of the default tones that came on my phone. I could then use it for text tones or alerts etc. Can I do this on an iphone 4 or 5?

You don't need any app or program to create the ringtones. Just make them in iTunes very easy.

If you choose to save your recorded sound and import it to iTunes, you can choose the sound as your alert.
