Is there an issue with incorrect tracking of data usage?

I just upgraded from a 4gig shared plan to 6. I never went over the previous plan, but now that I have more data, I've gone over. There is no difference in how we are using our phones, and when I look at the data usage for each phone on the plan (there are 4, all different phones) the times don't make sense - in some cases it appears that data is being used in the early morning hours when we are sleeping. In other cases, the are duplicate entries for the same dates and times. What the hell is going on? I don't even dare try to call Verizon customer service b/c I know I'll be on the phone with them for hours with no resolution or explanation that makes sens to me (it makes perfect sense to them, however). Anyone else experienced this?

Although I am not a conspiracy theorist I am reading more and more on the web that ever sense the Unlimited data went to shared or metered data, people that never exceeded data use previously are now seeing high overages. Of course Verizon will tell you nothing is wrong and it is all your problem. I can remember the old days when people were seeing phamton charges of data use at 99 cents and in the lawsuit that followed Verizon admitted it was an error. They made millions on that error but the class action settlement was peanuts. They still made millions even after admitting the practice.

I personally do not believe that the data counters are 100% accurate. Amazing that people on unlimited that used a few gigs of data if that n ow complain of excessive data over 3, 4, and 8 GB and up. Yeah the phones that were not using a whole lot of data before are suddenly data hogs. again I am sure there is a logical reason for the data jumps.

And no lets not just blame the users, or the device brand this situation is happening across all brand lines. Some more than others such as iPhone's but again this is all about the money.

And don't fall for the Verizon now has plans with double data for the same price, it is a ploy to garner more business. They see this as their answer to the Sprint & T-Mobile and now AT&T plans being offered.

You see with 99% cellular penetration Verizon and other providers have to do anything they can to get and keep customers.

It is big business. You must expect they have ways to generate as much money out of you they can.

I've read similar stories as well, and it does feel like there's something fishy going on. I'm trying to get in touch with Verizon Wireless support. We'll see how they respond, but I'm pretty certain they are going to blame me.

Here is one reply you can expect. Go into the app settings and turn off automatic updating, only update over WiFi, use WiFi when ever you can, turn off cellular data or LTE, turn off data roaming.

The kicker here is why then should data be even offered or charged to a cell phone users account. The providers make it mandatory. However lets say you just want to make phone calls so why pay for data. Yes there are a few non data devices but even cell phones not active on your account can still access the internet on WiFi or public WiFi.

Check the apps on your phones. alot of apps will download information late at night. There are lots of apps that do this you have to check what you allowed them to do when you downloaded them

Let's see Verizon says I've used 1.69 GB this month( 27 out of 31 days into month )my phone says I've used 1.7 GB. So nope nothing wrong with mine. Nothing "fishy" going on as someone implied.

Right up to the time the courts sided against them.

Don't always take a straight line stance with verizon wireless as doing no wrong. They have and they do.

Well I must be on their "do not rip off list" as I have never had any issues with incorrect data. I am always curious as to why people bash Verizon and still stay a customer. I'd be leaving in a heartbeat if I actually though Verizon was ripping me off.

You see to leave makes them (Verizon Wireless) a winner. Since those with real issues won't have to call, or come to the forums, or chat what have you.

I have no data issues. Even with unlimited I use KB and MB not GB. But I could. Being older I use the data on the phone very little. Maybe for a price comparison occasionally or restaurant look up. But by no ways constant on.

However since I have been with this provider since they started offering cellular it does not make me oblivious to past indescrations which are documented so if a company bills a sum of $1 each month as data usage that is $120 million dollars profit however that is what verizon claimed they were not doing even after customers called and complained. But it took a class action to win and have Verizon state when they became aware of this, of which you see they knew but stayed silent.

However they lost in court. So tell yourself that the people claiming never to have used 1 or 2 GB or less in the past now on metered data are going way over. Let's see verizon lied in the past, so I am going to take the word of a company who is known to deny and cover up when the say all the data counters are accurate. You see now its not 120 million dollars they are raking in each month but close to 100 million or more on these so called overages.

But even though courts and others have found Verizon in the cookie jar, you can just back them up in every post.

Being credible is looking at both sides and rendering a comment on facts. Because it does not happen to you or I does not mean it is not happening.

My billing cycle started over today, so last night as a test, I put my phone on 'Airplane Mode'. I woke up this morning and checked, and as of 7:23 AM EST, I have used 0.000 data. So far, Verizon has passed.
