I just tried to pay off the last month of my contract so I can port my number to a new carrier and was told I would have to pay an ETF. I don't understand why, if I've paid the full value of the contract, they would hold my number from porting. It just seems petty and feels like my number is being held for ransom. Price was my only motivation for switching carriers, now I would add customer service as a reason not to recommend Verizon to my friends or family. It is a poor way of doing business and closes the door on any chance of switching back in the future.
