I can't make or take phone calls, but i can message and use data. Has this happened to anyone else? I've gone through three Samsung Galaxy S5's in the past three days, two of which have this problem and one just stopped working all together.

My phone is still having issues taking and making calls... but one thing new that's happened since I spoke to customer support is that every now and then my phone will give off a roaming notification. Right now it says Verizon Wireless, but when I woke up with morning and attempted to place it call it said Roaming. Then it asked if I would like to allow data while roaming. I selected yes, then the roaming notification went away. I was looking through the forum and this guy: DSalkovic might be having the same issues.

I was going to ask as well... I spoke to customer support yesterday and the lady was unable to solve the issue and she opened a ticket (i think is what she called it). Would I be able to track the status of this ticket? Also....I have my old Droid Razr Maxx HD. If I put my SIM card into that to attempt to make phone calls, would that mess with VZW support's investigation?

That notification is odd. However, since the investigation is open, it would be best to keep that phone active and not activate your Razr until the Ticket is completed. Please power phone off all the way for 30 seconds and then restart to see if the Roaming notifications stop. And keep us posted.

It just displays the roaming notification periodically. Not too often.

Will do HHonEEy. And if yours gets going first, please let me know as well. Just to help you get by: Gmail offers a free phone service. And you can download skype and pay 10 dollars to dial out to any phone from your phone (even though cellular isn't working, it uses data)

am also having this exact same issue. I just upgraded to the S5 and activated it yesterday, and today I am having the exact same issues! It just says "Dialing..." when I try to call out and eventually hangs up. When someone tries to call me, it goes straight to voicemail. Please help!

Hi Bhudds, the situation with my Galaxy S4 has been resolved. I have just switched over to Verizon and my number hadn't ported from my previous carrier properly. That might work for people who transitioned over from a different service provider, but for those of us who were already Verizon customers, we just get a message that we are already Verizon customers.

thats right. I am already a verizon wireless customer since multiple years. So, this is a case of bad product and bad customer service. In fact, I recently visited a verizon store and after them trying everything for almost 2 hours I hear them saying 'So, do you want to go for a second-hand (certified) phone because not all new phones are tested for quality'

So I just got off the phone with a representative, after troubleshooting he

determined the phone was defective. We went through every possible

solution, then I put my sim in my previous phone and it worked just fine.

Yeah, I put my SIM card in my old one and it works fine as well...with good signal strength. Then I put it back in my new phone and its back to not working. I just can't see why it would work for a short time frame, but then stop working all together.

hi abel8189 peterporpoise beware of the 14 day limit guys .. as soon as u cross that verizon will show u the door and say that the only option is to replace with a 'like new device' for which we should have actually paid half of the retail price. I went thru all these steps without realizing the 14 day limit, but I am not giving up. Between Verizon and Samsung, one of them big corporations will have to own the responsibility of not selling damaged phones to customers. It is as simple as that. I am also keeping a track of the amount of time I spent on troubleshooting this issue as a customer and being on the phone with Verizon customer service listening to music, whereas a customer should just pay for a high-end phone, get it activated and should not have to worry about anything else

Add me to the list of people with the same exact issue. S5 only a couple of months old, was on Verizon already, upgraded from LG Octane (that never gave me even a split second of trouble). Worked just fine until yesterday. Spent over an hour on the phone with Verizon Tier 1 and then Tier 2 support. Did all the resets, etc, that they could think of. Finally said it must be the phone and are sending a "certified" out today. I too am not happy about this at all. My biggest concern is that this may be intrinsic to the S5 and it's not going to matter how many times you replace the phone is replaced. They need to make this right.

Okay, so I did a Google search and that led me to this topic. I am also having the exact same problem.

This started last week. I have had a Galaxy S5 for 2 months now, and like others have said previously it simply stopped making or receiving calls. I like others have said can text and use data, the phone works with the exception of making calls or receiving calls.

I saw Matt's post about updating all his apps and that worked for him, so I tried that but nothing different. I don't want to do a reboot or factory reset, since others have tried and no change. I did the battery pull and restart, I went to a Verizon store and they gave me a new sim card.

I am going to wait it out and hope that it either miraculously fixes itself or a solution is found. As popular as the phone is I fully expect more and more cases of this to come about in the next few months. Please find a solution, this is a growing problem now and it is not the exception.

I don't think this is a Galaxy issue. I have Droid Maxx and a Droid 4 and both just started having this issue. Verizon says there I.T department is working on this. Seem to affect folks from PA to Alabama based on the problem map on Verizon.

I started having the exact same issues on the 19th of July in Rochester, NY. However it's happening on my Galaxy S4, not an S5. I've done everything people are suggesting, battery pulls, sim pulls, micro sd pulls, safe mode, and factory resets. Nothing seems to be working.

I can't call and all incoming calls go directly to voicemail. Occasionally I'll see my phone go from 3 bars of 4G to roaming real quick and then back again.

Under Status in settings I see the following:

Network: switches from "Verizon Wireless" to "Unknown"

Service State: In Service

IMEI: Matches what's on the back of the phone.

Same issue here. I am currently in Colorado. Live in Denver metro area but work in northern Colorado. Can not make any calls and when receiving calls rings but goes to voicemail. Opened a network ticket with Verizon Wireless on Thursday still no response. Went to Verizon store this afternoon and replaced my Sim Card. Representative said that should resolve the issue. I have other colleagues who have Verizon Wireless with different devices; iPhone 5, iPhone 5C and LG something. No calling issues. Seems Samsung here is at fault and no resolution has been made. If anyone know of anything that worked for them please let me know. Thank you.

SAME PROBLEM HERE -- I cannot make outbound our receive inbound calls. When I dial out, it says it's dialing but I do not hear ringing. It stays like that for 10-20 seconds and then disconnects. Inbound calls go directly to my voicemail.

I purchased and activated my phone SATURDAY, 26 JUL from Irvine, CA. Last working phone call was an inbound at 1109 AM on TUESDAY, 29 JUL. I was visiting CA over the weekend, I am now in Sierra Vista, AZ.

What I've Done:

- Reboot phone

- Removed Battery, Reboot

- Removed SIM, Rebooted without SIM

- Added back SIM, Rebooted

- Updated latest software/updates/etc., Rebooted

Today (THU, 31 JUL), I stopped by the Verizon Wireless store to discuss my issue. They did the same actions (i.e. reboot, remove battery reboot, remove SIM reboot, etc.). They replaced my SIM card and tried again but with no success. They saw that there was another OS update so they proceeded to install. I didn't have enough time to wait so I told them I'd finish the update and try again. The update finished and the issue is still present. I will be returning to the store later this afternoon.

Is there a TWITTER handle or anything that I can follow so that either I can share any results and/or I can follow others that are having issues? Thanks.

BTW, I forgot to include a couple things:

1. I also tried resetting (not hard reset) my settings for trouble-shooting.

2. I was also receiving periodic messages of "roaming." Consistent to some of the notifications other users have mentioned in the above thread.

3. The Verizon rep told me her next step would be hard re-setting the phone when I return at a later time.

Okay update to mine.

I was on the phone with Verizon for an hour and a half. I went through tier one/tier 2, and then to final technical support guy.

On my own - I have taken battery out, rebooted phone, factory reset, gone to store and got new sim card.

We trouble shooted for that whole hour and a half, he had a test phone and put my number in, turned my network off and tried the phone - and it worked for him. I had 4G LTE 4 bars and the phone would still dial and then cancel after about a minute. And when people called it would still go straight to voicemail.

It's definitely a hardware issue.

His consensus was that there are little antennas within the phone - one for blu-tooth, one for data/texting, and one for calling/receiving. Apparently somehow the calling/receiving antenna is glitching and dysfunctional in some way shape or form. The only result was to get a new bare bones phone sent and insert my battery, sim card, charger, etc. So the phone is in the mail and I'll swap it out. I'll update if I have anymore problems.

For those who do not have any other means to call Verizon to talk with technical support, if you have a computer headset or microphone, you can sign up for Skype's one month free trial which is unlimited calls to landline/mobile in US. Just remember to cancel the subscription after you fix your phone problem, or they start charging you monthly for the service.

Hope this helps people out with this really strange issue. If I have further problems after I receive the new phone, I'll update.

This has been an issue since 1 JUN (almost 2 months now).

Please provide the latest update you have regarding this issue. It seems that more and more people are starting to run into this problem. Please let the community know what step(s) Verizon has taken in order to resolve this and what sort of time line we can expect to look forward to.

In addition, I'm reading there are small contractual issues that customers need to be aware of (i.e. 14-day policy), which could potentially negatively affect customer service support. As of this post, I am not familiar with this 14-day policy but I am concluding (based on previous posts) that Verizon only offers 100% coverage of the phone for the first 14 days. After, Verizon is only responsible in providing a "Like-New" replacement. Please confirm/correct. If anyone else on this thread has insight on the 14-day policy, please share.

Iam having the exact same issues. I'm on my second phone in a month. I went into the store today and

they took the battery out and put it back in. It worked while I was in the store, then after i left the store the next call I got

they couldn't hear me. I then made a call to call them back and it didn't work.

Now I have to go back to the store!!! What a Pain!

UPDATE:

31 JUL - I returned to the store later this evening. BTW, this was after I did all the research online and came across this thread. I explained to them what I found and that this issue was a very common problem. The original plan was for me to return and do additional "testing" and maybe do a factory reset but after explaining the issue to them I told them I had concerns of potentially wasting time on "solutions" that were already tested and found to be no of help. Over hearing my issue, several other reps came closer to us and actually started investigating themselves and seeing what the problem was. They all stated this was the first time they've seen this problem. They eventually said they'd replace my phone for me at which point I cringed because of the 14-day policy people kept talking about on this thread. So let me clear this up for all of you --

14-Day Policy. Starts on the day of purchase of your ORIGINAL phone (independent of how many times you've replaced it). During the 14 days, if the problem is inherent to the phone (not physical/water damage by YOU), then the store will replace it with a BRAND NEW phone from their stock. This means you will walk out of that store with a new one. After the 14 days, Verizon will cover your phone for up to one full year from the day of original purchase. Again, this does not cover any accidental damages done by you. At this point, they will over-night you a CERTIFIED LIKE-NEW phone. This is NOT the same as a refurbished phone as it was explained to me, where typically it's something that's repaired after physical damage. These are phones that were returned by customers have limited use, trade-ins, returns, etc. They go back to Verizon HQ where they are rigorously tested and certified again. Anyway, that's the deal with the 14-Day policy and the 1-year Coverage by Verizon. You do not need insurance for the 1-year coverage.

So, they backed up my phone's contents to the cloud, brought me a new phone, and downloaded my contents back to my new phone. They were very helpful and I walked out with a new one in a little over an hour (the WiFi was slow). KUDOS to the manager there for hooking me up with the Tempered Glass (which was on my old phone). So there you go, I took the new phone home, downloaded all the apps I normally have and now it's the waiting game. I've read that others have replaced their phones up to two times so we'll see what happens. I'm thinking this may be defects in the physical hardware for certain BATCHES. It sounds like for those folks who bought in certain areas they are having issues. I bought mine in Irvine CA and picked up my new one after I returned home to AZ.

I have a GSIII and am having the exact same issue. I could make calls for about 3 hours after putting it in service and then NOTHING. After reading this I am beginning to think that maybe it is a SAMSUNG problem and not a Verizon one. Put my dads SIM card in the phone and still nothing. My Dad switched back and forth to an iPhone when he was deciding which he wanted to use and never had any issues. Now he has the GS4 and wants the 5. How does a phone just go "bad" like this? The GSIII I have is like new and is pretty much a paper weight now......

I've switched over to my older S3 with the same sim card for the past week or so, occasionally popping the sim back in the S4 to check to see if it works. Still no change with my S4.

Customer service doesn't know what to do and told me to go to a store and see if they can change anything to get my calls to work, by the sound of these replies and how many people this has happened to looks like I just wasted $300. I am extremely disappointed.

We don't want to see you disappointed in your phone purchase, KayJean14. If you're having trouble receiving calls, please make sure the Auto Reject Mode is turned off following the steps at http://vz.to/VjCq2S. As for outgoing calls, do you hear any audio if you put your phone into speakerphone mode or use a Bluetooth? Did this start after any particular applications was updated or installed?

It's not a matter of the speaker not working, they one never actually connects to make the call. The call timer never starts

I have tried everything. The speakers still work the phone call never connects and it just gives up and ends call. I have gone through 3 different people in customer service on the phone already and did everything they told me. I just bought this phone 5 days ago and got a zag screen cover and case from another place, it's really going to upsetting if I'm going to have to get a new phone and wasted money on the screen protector as well.

I am having the exact same problem. I dropped a call mid-call two days ago, tried calling back but the phone just says "Dialing..." and never connects. This happens for every number I try to call, including my Voicemail. I also periodically get "Roaming" notifications as well. I tried turning on and off, battery pull, resets etc, just like everyone else, and have not been able to resolve the issue. I use the phone for work and it is extremely important that I have a reliable phone. I have been a VZW customer for 10+ years and upgraded to the Galaxy S5 in July. Currently very disappointed.

Update: There is no update. Still no private response from Verizon after they asked me to contact them through their direct messaging service.

Adding my self to the growing list of s5 owners who are having this same issue. Problem started on aug.1 and has been this way since. I have been to two vzw. stores where each time the tech said they have never seen this before and did the battery pull sim card pull factory resets ect ect ect. I have spent hours on the phone with tier 1 and tier 2 tech support. They opened a troubleshooting ticket on about aug. 9 after I explaining that my phone seems to work when connected to a wifi network and not otherwise . All incoming calls go directly to voicemail outgoing calls just end after about 30 seconds of dialing. About a week later this "tech" leaves me a VOICEMAIL that said my ticket had been resolved. the next day while at work I connected to wifi to read this VOICEMAIL and called tier 2 tech support again this time talking to another "tech" who never heard of this before and spent about an hour explaining the whole thing again . So they reopened the ticket and said I should hear back from the same person by the holiday weekend. I`m still waiting. In the meantime I have done some online searching for any others having this problem with the s5 on other networks and found nothing. I also called Samsung tech support after about an hour with them they said this is a vzw issue so I guess my next move in not paying the bill due to vzw breaching my contract by not providing call service to my smartphone I bought new in June I`m not interested in a "reconditioned" or "recertified" phone when I bought a new one as these are just fancy terms for used or previously damaged or possibly HACKED.

It is very clearly a verizon issue. Myself in addition to others in this thread have demonstrated that these "broken" samsung phones can still make phone calls using T mobile sim cards. However when the VZW card is put back in, phone calls can no longer be made.

I have had all of the same issues since early yesterday..... unable to make or receive calls and the roaming notifications. I also intermittently can't send or receive texts. I cleared my total Cache history and unistalled recent apps/updates and still wasn't able to resolve the issue. When there was no change after a factory reset, we called customer support who transferred us to Tech Support who was able to fix the problem last night after stating my phone was "out-of-sync". I woke up today and found all of the same issues again. From what I am reading, receiving a new phone doesn't guarantee it won't happen again. I guess I will try a personal visit to a Verizon store.

Adding my name to the growing list. I'ts been 3 days since I've been able to make or receive calls. Tier 1 and Tier 2 tech support unable to help. Tried pretty much everything here other than using a different carrier sim card to test the unit including factory resets and Safe Mode.

Only other thing that doesn't work is Bluetooth (sees other devices, but won't connect.) Everything else works. It's not roaming/signal strength issues.

Hey Everyone,

Verizon was able to solve this issue for my wife and I. Apparently they pushed out a new feature and corresponding update that enables a new feature called HD calling or voice over LTE. After visiting the store in Homestead, PA they were able to correct the issue by toggling the feature from the account level and also the phone itself.

Hopefully this helps someone and a shout out to the staff at the Homestead location for their assistance.

I am having the same problem with my Galaxy S5. I purchased the original phone in May. It worked great until late August. Then I started not getting calls, calls did not show up as missed calls, voice mails did not come through. Sometimes the phone would ring but go straight to voice mail. I called Verizon Support in early October and they wiped my phone clean and had me reboot. It didn't seem to help. After that, all of the above happened, then I was not receiving text messages and mine were not going out. I took the phone into the company store and they replaced the SIM card, still did not work. In the meantime I spent more time on the phone with tech support. Finally they sent me a new phone last Wednesday. It appeared to work fine until this evening and not this phone is exhibiting the same problems as the previous one.

There are 3 more phones on our plan and one is the same phone. So far that phone has not had any issues. This is getting old. I am unable to get through to tech support and am getting pretty frustrated with the phone and service.

I am having the same issue, I've got my new phone (Galaxy S5) in August 2014, the phone started to have this issue last week and I've tried all suggested options, nothing worked! after calling verizon customer going their suggested options again and again, finally they decided to replace the phone and sent me a used one. The old phone started working again after few days and I sent back the verizon used phone. Yesterday my phone stop send and receiving call for about an hour and starts working again.

I purchased a new Galaxy phone on September 20th and one week ago, my phone stopped receiving and sending calls. Previously owned a Galaxy 3, no issues. I also own an iPhone, no issues. I've updated, rebooted, pulled the battery, cleared cache, reset call settings, been to the Verizon store without a fix. What is wrong with this phone that cost me $300?

Me too! My phone is only 6 months old. I've been with Verizon forever.....their only solution....send this one (mint condition) and wait to receive a used phone.... (God knows what condition), or put my Sim card into an old phone. The only other phone I had was a Galaxy S4 that chewed through 2GB of data in 12 days after doing a Verizon update. So, looks like they continue to screw me over for another 2 years. I'm finding someone else!

This is the second fight I've had with a Galaxy phone. I'm smiled at, said "We can't do anything" and then there is no replacement available or I have to buy a new phone. This thing is 2 days over 6 months old....the one I was offered was scratched, roughed up and looked like it had been on tour with a 2 year old. My phones are always in a defender otter box and look brand new. Never dropped, never wet, nothing. When my number is called, it doesn't ring, it goes straight to voicemail. I dial the number....it just keeps saying Dialing... and then times out. They replaced the Sim card...same results. They put a sim card from another working phone in my phone and got the same results. Reading the boards, I see others have had a problem with this too. Obviously it's a manufacture's problem...why should the customer suffer for it. It was explained that only in the first 14 days can it be replaced. Honestly, I wasn't born yesterday....how many phones actually have a problem within 14 days of purchase. There is a lemon law in regards to cars, there should be phones too. The employee said..."well, if you buy a new car, and in 6 months it's broken your insurance company doesn't give you a new one. They fix it with used parts, same with a phone." REALLY????? I'm sure there are a lot of attorneys that would love to know that about insurance fraud!

Honestly, I would prefer the phone new or one that at least looks and is guaranteed to work. I would hate to leave Verizon after being here so long, but the last two run ins with the local Verizon store has changed my mind. They are all smiles and helpful when you want to buy a new phone, but go in with a problem, they scatter like ants in the rain!

You, Joel are my last hope that I am a customer that matters to Verizon.

So I too am having this issue. Have done all the steps mentioned above, phone is 6 months old. Just 2 days ago phone stopped making an receiving calls. Can text and access the data network. Hopefully I can get a warranty replacement. Guessing it's an antenna issue. It seems one poster mentioned there is a separate antenna for data and phone. My guess is there is a fault in the phone antenna. Unless anyone has found any new fix or information on this problem?

Its been some time and many posts since this problem has presented itself; unfortunately Verizon has not been able to figure out the problem and their suggested solution is replace the phone. After 5+ months of having a phone and paying for a service in which I cannot use fully, I got frustrated enough to take time off of work and visit one of your stores.

The technicians spent about 2 hours attempting to figure out the problem at the Rochester NY (Jefferson Road) store but were at a loss.

I know the phone portion and the radio on the hardware itself works correctly because I can put in a tmobile sim card and it makes phone calls on their network without issue. I know my verizon sim works because I currently use in my old S3 phone and I can make phone calls with that device as well. Making a new verizon sim card did not fix the problem.

I was left with the reps at the store telling me that my phone was the problem and that there was nothing they could do to fix it even though all the evidence points to the network being the problem.

Of the people who have also had this problem, several of them had their phones replace on site and only hours to days later, the same phone issues happen again on the new hardware. Some people getting as many as 3 replacement phones for the same problem.

Lets assume the hardware is actually the problem, judging by the amount of people publicly seeking information about this is minuscule compared to the amount of S4/S5 owners on the Verizon network.

Let take this extraordinarily small number and then of that pool of people who had hardware problems, the likelihood of them having this same problem again after being replaced is even more extraordinary, but not impossible.

However, take those people that were somehow so unlucky that after they had replacement device and that fails, it happens again. This is near impossible. It simply can't be a hardware issue.

All I want to do is to be able to do is use my perfectly capable Galaxy S4 for phone calls. I'm tired of paying for a service that Verizon is preventing me from using.

I have a similar problem with my s5. After reading this entire thread, I have the same problem with calls & additional issues- cant make or receive texts and internet is slow. Problem is intermittent, battery pulls, reboot, sometimes works, sometimes doesn't. DId a factory reset, talked at length with Verizon support, they reset my connection.Nothing worked.

Also called Samsung themselves, explained everything to them, they recommended that I send it to them to re-flash the software and do some testing. I sent it out today. They should have it in 2 days- they even sent me a prepaid UPS 2nd day shipping label.

Will wait to see what happens...

Add me to the list. I've had my s5 for 4 months. I use it as my home office phone for work. All of a sudden my phone is no longer able to make or receive calls. I am very frustrated as I have tried everything mentioned in this thread.... looks like I will be visiting a Verizon store soon and hopefully it will not be too painful.

Count me in too! Same issue - on a new s5. I've had the phone since Sept 2014. Just started last night (that I noticed). I wasn't able to make or receive calls. Now, come to think of it, I've had people tell me they called, but I never received a missed call notification, so I suspect this is a bigger issue that I just didn't notice before.

I updated software to lollipop on my own, after dealing with worthless tech support for hours. It seems to have resolved the issue (for now). But this is clearly an issue Verizon wants no part of. They seem to spend more time asking you dumb questions that are completely unrelated. They either don't know anything about what they are talking about, or are trying to hide the issue in totality (both very bad scenarios and they are losing more costumers over this than they can possibly imagine). For every one posting here, there must be 5-10 reading and not responding (creating an account and finding the thread is a major hassle).

Anyway, for anyone else here just reading -- try updating the phone's software, see if that works for you too. Took me a few hours and some 600 updates, but it worked. Make sure you have a full battery when you start and watch the phone--it gets really hot. I rebooted (soft) a few times as well, right after updating. Oh, and I subsequently updated my roaming too *228. Good luck!

I have a Iphone 6 and it was working fine until two weeks ago when it stopped receiving or sending calls. All other features work, I have been to the Verizon store 5 times and restarted everything, new sim card, worked with support tech, been to Apple and replaced to a new phone but it still is not receiving or sending calls. I get a fast busy signal when calling out and if you call me it says my number is disconnected. I can even Facetime! Any clues?

I also have the same problems with the S5. Originally I thought it was possibly water because it got splashed on the counter. Even told them so @ our store. However after reading all this..... can do everything except make/receive calls. Verizon sent me an email saying they're checking into it but haven't heard anything back. I actually thought they had good Customer service until now. Good company gone bad????

Just received my S5 back from Samsung. They fixed the problems. New Lcd, new Pba, updated the software. It works better than new!! Extremely fast, no more placing calls and seeing "dialing" for about 20 seconds then disconnecting. Internet is lightning fast as well.

Thsee problemso are clearly NOT a Verizon issue, but a issue with the phone itself. Verizon did everything they could possibly do- they were great, eving going as far as the follow-up with me regarding the problems. But there was nothing they could do. The phone itself had a problem connecting to the network.

Whoever has these problems should contact Samsung for repair. The phones have a 1 year warranty, so they will fix it for free, as well as pay for 2 day shipping each way.

Hope this helps everyone looking at this thread.

I originally thought it had gotten water damage since it had gotten splashed while sitting on the bathroom counter.(Although they are suppose to be water resistant) Thats what I told them when I took it to the store. Of course now that IS the reason. Not the fact that everyone is having the same problems. The reps at samsung were terrible! Verizon has not been any help either.

That's too bad. It sounds like since you mentioned water, they are using that against you, unfortunately that is typical. Both Verizon and Samsung were terrific to me. Samsung told me that I should send it to them. They sent me a pre paid UPS 2 day shipping label the first time I talked to them. I have only had my phone for 6 months.

And like I said, my phone is better than new now. Samsung must know on some level that they have a problem, but they will probably never acknowledge it. Best of luck!
