Splitting a line off one family plan, moving to another

Question

Hello, I'm in the process of a divorce. My soon-to-be ex husband will either have his own plan (sounds like he wants to stay with VZW) or join his parent's Everything plan. Our contract was up in December but we've been putting this off until the release of the S5.

I'd like to know the steps needed and people who need to be present for either of these options.

Would we need to be with his parents if he is moving to their plan? Could he move his line to their plan without me there? Would my changes to my plan need to take place at the same time he moves his line, or could they be done at different times?

If he takes his own plan, I assume he and I would both need to be present. (I have a second line on my account and plan to remain on a family plan myself.)

What you need is an Assumption Of Liability (AOL). You can do this one of 2 ways. Either by phone or in a corporate store. If he wants to take it to his own account under his name and SSN then it will need to be the two of you together. If it is to go his parent's account then it'll need to be you and the holder of that account.

You never need to wait until a contract is over to do an AOL as long as the line being assumed by another person stays with Verizon. There are no fees or penalties associated UNLESS the line is under contract and it ported to another carrier.
