Cheaper prices

I just found out that I can save about $40 per month if I change to T-Mobil because they don't charge the extra $40 data usage package fee that Verizon charges, plus they will pay some money on the early termination fee, as well as put money towards a new phone when you purchase. Can someone tell me where I can find out how much my early termination fee would be? Do I also have to pay for my phone if I got it in an upgrade?

A great deal depends on your exact VZN plan, how you obtained the plan, WHEN you obtained the plan.

Generally you can save that $40 anywhere you can get coverage. Verizon is very up front with their higher prices overall. However, when voice coverage is factored in, people in rural areas may often be better off paying the additional amount to get decent voice coverage.

If you are looking at Data, then all other providers have the ability to better the Verizon offers. VZN will not do unlimited data. Most others will - and for a lower price than VZN's tiered pricing.

ETF are a "contract buy out". You will definitely pay something - depending on your phone type, your plan, your time since signing a new contract.

If you want to look at your options, google the plan types that you are interested in, then the cost to get out of your VZN contract and the cost to pay off your phone....then calculate the cost of the new service over a 2 year period. I suspect that you make all the paid monies back within a year and realize a net savings over the second year... good luck

Dear customer service, after having been to insulted with an offer of

service (limited data and excessive talk and text allowance) VZN has made

my decision for me. Several contributors here have advised me to go

elsewhere. So I looked at my options and could not find a more expensive

option with another carrier. Also, I could not find less data being offered

by another carrier.

Please pass on my thanks to anyone there who really cares. To all of my

fellow (over 25 year vets of VZN), pay attention that the responses that

you get here. When they tell you to go elsewhere-start looking. (removed)

I am glad that you found an option that works better for you, Jiminraliegh but your message isn't relevant to the post. The VZW rep wants the option to work with fiyre43 to see what s/he wants and if VZW can offer it or something comparable. What you're advising, to simply abandon VZW's service, may not suit fiyre43's needs and could turn out to be the wrong decision. Because we don't know his/her specific lifestyle or whether cross country travel is done some of these regional carriers may not be the best option. I am sorry you no longer like VZW but not knowing all the information makes it hard for us to provide suggestions. Sometimes I get so frustrated with VZW that I think I would be better off somewhere else but having used 3 of the 4 major carriers and knowing people who have used some of these others like Cricket and MetroPCS and Virgin I realize that VZW is the one that has the coverage and offers to suit my needs. I am not defending VZW by any means but let fiyre43 work it out with VZW. My experience is that s/he doesn't want to leave but needs a more specific issue resolved.

To fiyre43 to simply answer your 2 questions, to find out what your ETF would be you should call customer service ro visit a corporate store. Since you're asking about ETF I imagine you signed a 2 year contract and got the phone at a discounted price. Paying the ETF means you're breaking contract and paying for the phone. The contract is because you didn't pay full price for the phone. Just remember that TMo offering $80 monthly does not include your phone which you will pay an additional monthly fee for that could be up to $30 depending on the device. I would suggest you see what VZW has to offer if you're looking to control some costs. The grass is not always greener. These other carriers advertise one thing and then don't deliver and TMo is not always paying out on their promise to ay your ETF. That process also entails that you pay the bill and submit a copy of the bill containing your ETF and, if they reimburse you, could take 8-10 weeks.

I yield to your calm and thought out response to my (somewhat) angry response above. I tried and tried to work out something with the VZN folks and got nothing even close to a justifiable plan/price.

I am blessed with great coverage everywhere I travel with several carriers - and base my responses on that. I, sadly, failed to include the warning that you provided - check your potential provider's coverage before jumping ship!! I talked and requested and begged for 45 days before giving up on VZN. Finally got a CSR who said - "Look, if we are no longer right for you, look around and if you find something that you like better and it serves your needs, go for it."

I never "looked" before - I just settled back and paid my bill. Having done the research (for over a month), I found that everyone will beat the price...however few/none offer national coverage to match VZN. To repeat myself - you were right to correct me - and I admit when I am out of line... Thanks for being professional.
