galaxy s5 front facing camera blocked

Do you put your s5 in your pockets allot.. and do you perspire allot like from playing sports things like that.. That sometimes can cause those water tags I call them to turn.. sometime too if you place your phone in high humid area's like a Kitchen or Bathroom it can cause a tag to turn..

Is there any way you can snap a shot of your Room mates phone I want to see the back open on it..

Looking at your s5 a few more times I was noticing your sensors were not blocked by anything there clear as can be your screen is a little on the smudgy side, mine gets that way too.. but that white were your Front camera sets under does puzzle me a bit..

If you look at this picture Very Close that I posted here you can see a orange tint to that Dot that is in the Battery Compartment, and this phone I assume was not subjected to water but it may have been.. I think if it would have been ifixit would've revealed that but what I'm trying to put a point out is, what your seeing with the camera and screen may be a Defect in your phone I would get a second opinion from another store if there is one close in your area.! see if it's possible the phone can be DOA'd and replaced with another new s5

my phone is the one circled in blue, we both have the galaxy s5 from verizon, the only difference is he has the white version and i have the black.

Looking at the pictures the dot on your roommates phone might be slightly whiter but not much did you have look at the ifixit Link you can pull the picture in close on your computer to see up close.! to me when I looked on there website or the Link the dot on your s5 was the same as what there Test model looked like and the tester that done the Tear down said the the Back cover did not have that great of seal to keep out moisture out.. so I'm a bit skeptic of the phone even being close to splash proof or what ever you want to call it as seen on the Samsung's commercials.

I have the same issue with my S5. It appears a small round seal or gasket around the front camera lens has slipped partially covering the lens. I don't believe it has to do with water damage or exposure. The S5 is supposed to be water resistant to things like sweat or dropping in the toilet. Did you get it fixed?<>

We certainly want you taking pictures clearly with your front camera, RamblinDude. Although the camera sliding out of place is a rare manufacture defect and may not be the direct result of water damage, any physical or liquid damage to the phone voids the manufacturer's warranty. The S5 is not waterproof and can be damaged with exposure to water. Does your device show any signs of damage http://vz.to/1pCLptZ? How long ago did you purchase your S5?

My S5 does not show any signs of water damage and has never been in the water. I purchased the S5 the first day it was available. I believe this was in April. The front camera became obstructed after about 3 months. This is a design/manufacturer defect. Thanks.

Could be from a glue or something similar as that, I know super glues can leave residue on glass so that could be what is possibly happening in this case..

Is it true that this dot is some kind of indicator of water exposure? Mine looks just like this photo but is NOT water damaged or exposed. If told this when I bought the phone brand new, I would have checked before I accepted the phone. So what's up Verizon? Quit hiding behind this and come clean on the front camera blockage issue. S5 owners around the web from other carriers too are noting this issue.

Odd as it may sound, the stick backing that keeps the sticker in place may have some color in.. causing the shaded color as it settles over time, I've seen stick backing labels change in color because of the glue they use..

RamblinDude, I can't say this and be certain but your dot and others in most electronics appears to be what is known in the industry as a moisture-detecting or liquid submersion indicators (LSIs). The spots can be triggered by almost any liquid, high water vapor, or even condense sweat on the spot. They are placed on main circuit boards, batteries and in the area of any charging circuits as a rule. I'm not saying your phone has been in water or even a wet area as the dot can change to a more white or red color from even a very small amount of moisture. Perhaps your best move is a replacement phone. check out this link:

And to add to what Reddud13$ asked: even when a phone is advertised as waterproof you have be a bit skeptic or least I am if I go outside and it is raining I put my phones either in a plastic container or bag, I like using the cases made by PELICAN manufacturing

I use both OtterBox and Pelican and both give good results. Also the tighter the phone housing the greater chance of condensation inside with temp changes, like from a warm pocket to cold outdoor air. It can be a major problem with some lower cost glass screen phones. I make it a rule to never trust the "waterproof phones" to be 100% waterproof. By the way most major phone brands have the spot dots or tape inside that can void a warranty with one quick look.

Apparently, my phone battery and internal battery compartment have XXX's on the moisture detecting stickers indicating water exposure. Both are within the sealed back cover which according to Samsung is water resistant. There is no visible sign of water exposure or corrosion other than the detecting stickers. This is BS. My phone has not been in the water. I carry it in my pocket all the time in a SENA leather case. I purchased the phone outright with the Edge program and was not smart enough to check the moisture detecting stickers when I received the phone new in the mail because I was not aware of the stickers. Therefore, I have no ability to verify the stickers at some point ever indicated negative on the water exposure. To be clear, a round gasket or seal around the front facing camera has come loose and is partially covering the lens. It is not glue or anything else but a loose part covering the camera lens. This is my first Samsung phone, it has been good except for this. Searching the Samsung S5 manual located at:

One cannot find the word "moisture" nor indication of a moisture-detecting sticker. Searching throught the "setting up the device" pages, there is no mention of any indicators which should be checked for moisture exposure. Searching for "water", the manual states the Galaxy S5 is "Dustproof and water-resistant (IP67 rating), the device is engineered to withstand the rigors of everyday life".

Looking up the IP67 rating on Andriod Authority it states: "We’ve been hearing a lot about the device’s IP67 rating, which means that it is completely dust-proof and will function normally even after being dipped in water for up to 30 minutes, up to a depth of 1m". This is what I understood when I bought the S5. Now my moisture detector stickers indicate exposure within the portion of the phone supposed to be rated IP67, good for "UP TO 30 MINUTES, UP TO A DEPTH OF 1M".

This phone has not been in the water, and certaintly not for 30 MINUTES UP TO A DEPTH OF 1M. I have extensive experience with expensive electronics having occupied many engineering positons and am extremely careful about things such as ensuring the back cover is on correctly. There are warnings in both the manual and pop-ups on the phone itself to alert one to the necessity of ensuring the back cover is on correctly.

And where are the Verizon customer support folks who responded earlier to my posts and have now dropped off the edge of the Verizon?

The claim by Samsung that the S5 meets the IP67 rating is FALSE.

This is why I purchased the S5 on the Edge contract, because I was guessing I would not want to keep the phone for 2 years.

The failure of the front facing camera is a manufacturing defect, not due to water exposure.

RamblinDude , From your photos your LDI stickers do not show clear water damage to me nor does your inside circuit board, only the spot dot color change which may only be a bad reading. It still seems to me like your best course of action would be to get a replacement phone from VZW or Samsung if they will cover the warranty at no cost if no clear cut water damage can be shown other than perhaps from the bad factory seal or gasket. You already have stated that the phone has a gasket problem that I would feel should be a fully covered warranty problem. I would contact both VZW and Samsung. Keep us posted.

Yes it's waterproof if the right conditions are met. Same goes with the Xperia line.

There's a way to put on the back place to properly seal... This is why the Xperia line had better ratings against water pressure.

Here's something to consider. Even if something gets a 8 rating for example doesn't mean it also meets 1-7 requirement. S5 downfall will always be water pressure. A showerhead is enough pressure to enter the device.

Otter box is really good stuff and I like the Pelican for the extra moisture protection
