I am going from an i-phone 4 ios 7 to i-phone 6 ios 8. Will I be able to restore the i-phone 4 backup to the i-phone 6? If not, what should I do?

I did just that yesterday, wife and I both had 4's, and upgraded both to 6's. I used iCloud to back everything up on both phones, and restored on the new phones, we got all our settings, pics, songs, etc restored fine.
Once caveat - on both phones, after restoring from iCloud we both had all our saved voice mails on our new phones, at some point after getting them successfully activated to make calls - which I had to call in to do , both of our saves voice mails disappeared completely. Strange - other than that, it all went fine.
