NEW EDGE PROGRAM

The new Edge program that came out today are not at all pleasing.

#1 payment options are not split back to 24 payments vice 20 payments as before. VW has been back and forth between 20 and 24 months since Edge came out

#2 you have to pay 75% of your phone off before you can edge up. If I am going to pay 75% of the phone off, then give back to VW is a understatement. Another part of Edge that has been back and forth since inception. First started of paying of 50% of phone before edge, up, then 60%, now 75%, just to turn around and give your phone back....under these conditions, I want be edging up.

#3 Way too many changes to Edge...

I am waiting for the X-mas special that you can pay for the phone over 30 months and have to pay it off 98% to trade up.

Guess what? Everyone else changes their payment plan offers too! Maybe you should switch to them and see how you like paying finance fees too

Actually I guess Verizon is trying to get rid of the Edge program. I mean. Only a person with short brain would enroll on this plan. Come on, 75% of you phone paid. In months that would be 18 months and give back the phone that you paid about $500 or more and get another phone that you will have to pay month to month. I rather wait 2 years (6 more months than edge) and upgrade and keep the phone I already have.

I am sorry for the people that falls into this. I would not call it a scam because it's all clear, but is all a steal of money.

Unless you're on the 10gb(maybe 8gb now) more everything plan and you get a $25 discount. If you get a discounted phone, you do not get the $25 discount. So essentially it's nearly a free phone every 2 years. Or after the 1st 2yrs you can keep your phone and get the month to month $25 credit.

Exactly. I am on a plan higher than 10GB. I get a $25 discount monthly. My phone is $30/month. So I could pay $230 (including upgrade fee) and keep the phone for 2 years or pay $90 (18 x $5 extra per month). Or I could keep the phone for 24 months and pay $120. I still make out better. There is no need for me to get a new phone every year so I would rather pay the $120 over 2 years than $230 up front.

What's weird is before Edge people complained they had to wait 24 months to upgrade not the 20 months they were used to before and here Edge gives you a chance to upgrade after 18 months which is 2 months earlier than the old 2 year contracts and somehow it's a bad deal? If Edge never existed and Verizon had allowed 2 year contracts to upgrade after 18 months these same people would be thinking that's the greatest thing in the world.

And for the record at&t's 24 month Next program has the same 18 month waiting period.

I understand that you can save money on the phone in the long run. But, I am not a heavy user data. To get a $25 discount I would have to get the 10gb data plan. Then pay $30 for 24 months for the phone. Even when you get $25 discount every month, you are already adding on a data plan that I would not use. I don't even use 3gb a month and I have 3 lines. I would be paying more monthly and the phone will have to trade it in when I want to upgrade, If I stay on contract I pay de $230 but keep my old phone. Or even sell it and pay part of the cost of the new one.

My statement was that, the first terms Verizon put on the Edge program, able to upgrade at 50%, or even at 60% was reasonable. Now I don't see it that way.

The bottom line is... when Verizon introduced the "Edge" program, was with the intention of being able to upgrade your device early without having to wait 2 years. The only way you can do that is by paying 75% of your device upfront now. from an iPhone 6 that would be close to $500 and also give the device in ans start from 0 on your new device debt. Does that make sense to someone? It's people choice... but, back to the point, this edge program changed a lot and not for making it better for people for sure.

You do realize you can get a $15 discount for any data plan under 10 GB. My math says for most it's cheaper. You're complaining about not beging to upgrade for 18 months on Edge yet you are willing to stay on a 2 year contract where you have to wait 24 months. That makes no sense. 18 months is MUCH sooner than 24. Also Verizon didn't have to let you upgrade early on Edge AT ALL. T-Mobile doesn't and at&t plans are the same as Verizon's.

Once again fun with math - Old Edge 60%/ 20 months/ $10 discount vs new Edge 75%/ 24 months /$15 on a $600 phone on your 3 GB plan

wanting to upgrade after 12 months

old edge 12 X $30( monthly edge payment )=$360 - $120( 12 X $10 edge discount )total paid $240

new edge 12 X $25( monthly edge payment )=$300 plus $150 to reach 75%=$450 - $180( 12 X $15 edge discount )total paid $270

So yes you are paying a whopping $30 more on the newer plan if you wanted to upgrade at 12 months

Upgrade after 13 months

old edge 13 X $30( monthly edge payment )=$390 - $130( 13 X $10 edge discount )total paid $260

new edge 13 X $25( monthly edge payment )=$325 plus $120 to reach 75%=$450 - $195( 13 X $15 edge discount )total paid $255

New Edge $5 cheaper

Upgrade after 14 months

old edge 14 X $30( monthly edge payment )=$420 - $140( 14 X $10 edge discount )total paid $280

new edge 14 X $25( monthly edge payment )=$350 plus $100 to reach 75%=$450 - $210( 14 X $15 edge discount )total paid $240

New Edge $40 cheaper. And the savings get larger each month

There are going to be times you'd never recoup the cost selling your device... A device that fails to get support for example or has a poor following which reduces the value of the device. It all depends on how you look at it. It's always options for everyone to decide which is best for them.

Then don't upgrade for 24 months like a contract. You'll save even more. Guess what, if you buy a car and have a 4 year loan and you only pay off 3 years and you want to get a new a car you either trade in your old one or pay it off. You don't get to keep you old car and stop making payments on it and also get a new car.

How bout 2 out of 3 new iPhone 6 models and all 3 iPhone 6+ models, which just happen to be the most popular phones on Verizon right now.

I'm sure the new Droid Turbo will at least come close to that amount.

Edge is not that expensive think about it people and think about it real good, you get a $600 phone for $0 the day you get it, it just adds $24.99 ( Droid Turbo) a month to your bill and if you have 10 GB you get a $25 line access fee discount which makes the phone FREE in a way!!!!! Yes you have to pay 75% off and if you really don't want to trade it in then get a 2-year contract and quit complaining, or pay full retail price and quit complaining it's that freaking simple!!

Even if you keep it for the 24 months with the discount in your example the phone is free.
