Android Update makes things worse AGAIN??!!

I should have learned not to accept Android updates last time. This time it's causing my phone to crash and reboot. What the h#ll is the problem, can't they provide a stable system update for once?

This is a Galaxy S4 anyone else having a problem?

Should I back out the update or hope for a fix soon?

Oh no! Sorry to hear you're having problems with the update jrichview2. We want to get your device up and running smoothly again. Does this happen when you run a specific application? How often does this happen? Have you tried using Safe Mode http://vz.to/1ldHnPU for at least a few hours? If not, please do so and keep us posted.

I am experiencing the same issue. After update my phone is rebooting unexpectedly and the screen becomes unresponsive. Reboots frequently happen around phone calls. I ran in safe mode and the same issue is occurring.

Other than a factory reset ... is there any actions I can take?

Is there a way to remove the update and go back to a working version?

My Galaxy S4 has no trouble. It's something you have installed or something broken in your backup.

Same thing here. Phone is completely unusable and keeps rebooting almost everytime I use it regardless of the application I am using. What a nightmare!!!!

Same here. accepted the upgrade this morning and my phone has been rebooting frequently. Sometimes it reboots when i am trying to answer the phone. Strange though because it "soft" reboots as it doesn't require a password when it finishes rebooting. I hope this is fixed soon and a factory reset is not acceptable as many of us have a lot of stuff that would need to be backed up and re-installed.

Somebody either from Verizon or Samsung needs to reach out to their customers and make this right

I am glad your phone is working after the update.

I have run the phone in Safe Mode. When the phone is in Safe Mode it only runs Samsung and Verizon loaded software and it still happens.

So I do not think it is any thing I downloaded.

Same issue. Phone worked great up until I did the upgrade. Now the screen freezes and reboots. I did all the suggestions even did a factory reset. N change.

Since it doesn't seem like Verizon is wanting to respond, I guess when m,y contract is up i will move to another provider.

Suggestion. Verify your updates work before pushing it on users!

You know its a lose lose situation.

First customers cry "where are our updates"? " Verizon your update ruined my phone" and the old standby of " fix this update or I am leaving for another carrier"!

Simple fact of the matter your update comes from Google and your device maker. Not Verizon wireless.

Verizon does not code your update in any way. They test it not for every function on a device, they test it to make sure it doesn't intefer with their network. That's it period.

The same complaints are voiced on Android and Windows devices (not iOS devices) and yet customers come here and blame the carrier.

The problems are device manufacturers and you. Not you and the cell carrier.

Verizon and others when you call read from a database provided by the phone makers to troubleshoot. If that doesn't work then for the manufacturers they will exchange your device. That is all they will do.

Maybe another update patch like Apple did as of late for there customers should be sent out to your android devices.

One can only hope.

Heck I shed tears when my Ice Cream melts to fast ha ha, To the ones having issues, they can o cure because of limited space, lack of good signal and some for over the air issues.. I always try and clear any unused space, I use my Wi-Fi or I find a tower in the city I live park in parking area that is near to it. and before I run a big update I'll usually Factory Reset before or after I run it just to help clear any negative issues..

any update we receive is a crap shoot.

I Can say my devices and my wife's devices have never had any update issues. Lucky I guess.

but if they did I would not be blaming my cell carrier. Personally I wish they never updated. But that is just me

Go to Samsung Experience shop - usually a Best Buy and see if they can fix your phone. This is a massive countrywide problem. Verizon will not accept responsibility..- I was into page 15 (a LOT OF USERS with useless phones) on a previous post regarding exact same thing. It was the upgrade 4.4.4 - it's crashing a huge % of samsung phone....... factory reset /swipe nothing worked on mine.

If you read the paperwork it even stated Verizon honors the warranty set forth by Samsung. So if Samsung doesn't tell Verizon to do something things and authorize them to do it then Verizon can't do them...

I'm having the same issues! This is horrible and no idea how to fix it. HELP!

With all do respect buy a quality iPhone next time. IOS has problems ocassionally but is fixed very quickly. There is something to be said of a phone manufacturer controlling both the hardware and software. I have thought about buying an Android phone in the past but too many worries about phone manufacturers not working with Android thus creating crapware. Don't have to worrry about bloatware either! Apple would never allow a mobile cell company to put bloatware on the iPhone. Navigator anyone? :smileyhappy:

an iphone is a good phone - but iOS isn't without issues... however, for most people that just want a device that "works", it's an excellent "appliance" phone.

i drive an accord. similarly, I consider it an "appliance" automobile.

if you want to experience more functionality, more flexibility, then one goes android. with it comes more work. it's not for everyone that's for sure.

I agree with most of your comments. What the Apple via the iPhone brings to the table is IOS updates which will work and fit like a glove. Often when Android comes up with a new update a phone manufacturer doesn't allow updates right away, sometimes not for months or not at all. Then all of a sudden the phone or Apps that run on it start crashing.

I also have an S4 that is randomly rebooting. In addition the touch screen randomly doesn't work after being unlocked. Locking and unlocking it again seems to work, but that is annoying.

I have booted into safe mode to see if I notice any reboots, but I don't see most of the ones that show up on the boot logger app (installed after I started having issues). As far as I know, my wife's S4 isn't having any of the same issues; not that she has noticed anyway.

Sorry for the slow reply. I assumed I'd get an email when someone responded.

I haven't seen a particular pattern, but it happens regularly. I will try safe mode this evening and reply again when I have.

Well, safe mode was not very helpful as I was unable to run Chrome (something I do regularly), facebook,etc. It's pretty limited. Given that reboots are random it's pretty hard to say anything from running in safe mode.

I did check my battery and it is fine. not warped.

Guess I will look at recovery mode.

I'm very rarely seeing this happen anymore. Not sure what I could have done that fixed it. I know it was a little better after I did factory reset but now it's rare that it crash/reboots.

However, I'm having a problem with my SD card that makes it almost 100% useless. Posted elsewhere.

Are you trying to access your card via the built-in File exploring program? Or something else?

Tried that, tried from my Win7 PC via USB as well. Also, apps cannot save to it. Any app that I tell to move itself to the SD card ends up having to be re-installed.

I wouldn't have any of the applications installed on the SD card personally.
