How to trade phones with my friend?

My friend and I want to trade phones. He has a Note 3 and I have a HTC One M8. He said that in order to trade phones, we would have to transfer to "dummy" phones first and then take our phones to Verizon for them to reactivate for each of us. I don't have a spare "dummy" phone though. Do I absolutely need one in order to trade with my friend?? And if I do find an extra phone, can it be an Iphone or will it mess up my plan with Verizon? I'm literally using the "dummy" phone just for the trade....

You can swap phones by simply taking your SIM card out of your phone and putting it in the phone you want to switch to. However, the Note 3 uses a micro SIM and the HTC One M8 uses a nano SIM. So you could get an adapter for your SIM card and then use it in the Note 3, or you could get a new SIM card at your local Corporate Verizon store. Your friend will need a new SIM card to switch to your phone.
