Blocking an SMS Shortcode Number

I keep getting a text message from an SMS shortcode number which, due to the 10-digit number only requirement, I can't block. Verizon has verified this is NOT a legitimate communication from them so it has to be someone trying to get my pin info; the msg includes a link to go to in order to change my PIN. Is there a way to block SMS Shortcode numbers? I have gotten this msg 4-5 tmes a day over the past two days.

Oh no, I know those messages can be annoying. We want to make sure that we get to the bottom of this ASAP. Have you tried to reply back to this message with the word "Stop"? That would be the first thing I would try to do. Can you provide me what the 5 digit number that is sending you these messages? When did you start getting these messages? Please keep us posted.

You can call Verizon at *611 (or 800-922-0204) and ask them to block Premium Text Messaging. Worst case scenario you have to add Family Base to block the specific number. As a benefit you can actually block restricted, private and blocked numbers from calling you as well. I pay the 5 bucks a a month for that alone. I haven't had a need for the more popular feature of data management, yet.

The SMS number is 89611. The message says: "The Verizon User ID (and my username) has been locked by Verizon or due to unsuccessful log in attempts. Visit myverizon.com/entermypin to reset."

Now, I do have some hacking investigator training so understand the possible ways people can switch websites to make them look real. I contacted Verizon who indicated there were no issues with my account, no disables or blocks of username or number.

As for sending a message back, I am hesitant; again, that training. I don't want to give whomever this person/group is any reason to think they are reeling me in. Due to limited income at the moment I don't want to add a feature just for that message and I do need SMS shortcode for a couple of things so don't want to block it entirely. They have stopped sending for now; I haven't gotten anything since the 16th, but I'd still like to know if there is a way to block shortcode numbers.

Sounds like phishing. I'd go to a secure spot and change your MyVerizon password first and foremost.

Password already changed :smileyhappy: and was done as soon as I verified with Verizon that they weren't the ones sending the message.
