Cannot receive Texts while Roaming in Canada

Hi all,

I'm not sure if this is the right place to be, but I'm having a hard time getting an answer or a solution to this.

I recently got a Samsung Galaxy 5. I spend a good amount of time in Canada and have had no problem sending/receiving texts while roaming there until I got this new phone. When I had my iPhone 4s, everything worked just fine. But upon "upgrading" to this phone, it doesn't allow me to send or receive texts unless I call someone. Is this normal? Is there a way to fix it where I don't have to call?

I set my phone to allow global data roaming, though I do not use it as my phone is always connected to WIFI.

Any help/suggestions would be greatly appreciated, thank you.

Help has arrived! Are you using the standard text messaging app on your phone or are you using a third party messaging application? Are calls and data effected in any way?

I'm currently using Chomp for SMS, but I tried using the standard

application aswell, and the result was still the same. Calls and data are

not effected, only texts.

Hi Mulindee!

Thanks for clarifying! Please advise to you experience this issue when you're in the US? While traveling internationally, you are not using VZW towers? Do experience the issue with all or specific contacts? Have you confirmed if the destination is entered correctly? Are you having trouble texting US or Canadian destinations?

Hi again,

This is a universal problem with all of my contacts. I am ROAMING while in

Canada, I was under the assumption that meant I was NOT using VZW towers.

Destination? Are you an automated help... thing? Like with any other phone

and standard text messaging app, I type the number (THE CORRECT NUMBER) and

my message, hit send, and do not receive a reply for hours on end because

my phone simply WILL NOT receive it unless I call someone or my voicemail.

I am not able to do this with anyone, US or Canadian.

If this is normal, please tell me so that I may cancel my service and

switch to a Canadian provider.
