32 GB Moto X

So disappointed. Went early to the Verizon store. All they have is the 16 GB version, both online and in store. I just don't understand this logic, especially in a phone without an SD slot.

For those of you who have been this route before, is this common at the beginning of a release?

You can go to Motorola's site and order a phone...they are pretty much already out, and I have no confidence in their web site. It wanted to run a credit check on me and suggested my Verizon plan would go up 40 bucks a month, neither process making much sense for an existing customer.

Thoughts? Should I just hold out?

Try calling customer service at 1-800-922-0204 or *611 and order over the phone. It seems someone was able to do so.

Well I just went thru the moto maker process to get a 32 GB moto x. I was presented with the option for the $60 single line plan, 2GB data (you can see the rest on their website.) I had to scroll down to get past the more everything plans. I can't guess what Verizon will do, but I don't believe they've had 32 GB 1st Gen moto X on their site in a several months. ( I've been thinking about this phone since last June. ) So I don't know about waiting for a 32GB moto to appear on the site.

I will say I got an estimated delivery date of Oct 22 and they will probably start charging me the new plan rate long before the phone actually arrives so you might want to wait until they work thru the initial rush of orders!

Thanks for responding. I basically did what emg2014 did, though it seems the motomaker and motorola site are one now. I pulled the plug and got a 32 GB MX with the same delivery date of 10/22, which is fine. It actually didn't seem to matter what options I chooses...the delivery date was about the same. Earlier in the day it was 10/8, so guess that's going well.

I was reluctant to use the Motorola site because 1) we already have a family plan on Verizon and all my info is there and 2) they wanted a credit check, which I don't understand since I have an account in good standing with Verizon. 3) I was hoping to limit the number of companies with my sensitive information. It was also given confusing info about potential changes to my account in regards to billing. I figured I could figure that out on the back end with Verizon if something is amiss.

I noticed that, in general, Verizon doesn't have the higher GB versions of Android phones, e.g. S5, which has been out for a while. I don't really understand this unless some sort of marketing says this is the sweet spot. But I would think they would like customers to walk out of the store with a device that if anything, has been upsold. It seems particularly silly in devices like the Moto X which is without an SD slot. Are people that localized in the cloud.

Then what is the difference with the Apple model? Both on the web, and in the store, you can get whatever storage you want.

Looking at the other phones, it may be that the 32 GB Moto X never comes to the Verizon store...BTW, at least they had the 16 GB bamboo and metal backed products out. They are really terrific looking, about the same size as an S5 or iPhone 6, with that great plain old KitKat feel. Very speedy. it didn't feel slippery at all. Am looking forward to it, coming from iOS.

Verizon is doing away with most of their large capacity (32 gb) phones. They want you to use their cloud to store things. 1 way around this and it is fairly easy and cheap is to get an External Flash drive that has the Micro Mini USB connector on it. This way you can store things on that just like an SD card and potentially give you back the unlimited storage(multiple cards). It is not as clean as internal storage or an SD card build into the phone, but it works and makes the pain of having less storage not that great.

I had heard this elsewhere as well. I guess if consumers vote with their wallets, things may chane. Cost wise it can't be much, while on Motorola's site it's a $50 hit. Great tip on the micro mini connector. I also have one of those wireless USB sticks. Instill went with the 32 GB MotoX though. Have to live with the thing for 2 years.

There's a work around I'm actually thinking of trying to get the 32GB Moto X with Verizon Edge discounting:

1) Buy the 32GB phone off contract (full price) directly from Motorola, since Verizon won't allow you to buy it using Verizon Edge.

2) Once you receive it, add it to your Verizon account as a new off-contract phone.

3) No credit checks, and you should qualify for the line discount (as much as $25 off per line from the regular $40)

My Verizon phone went off contract earlier this year and since then I have been eligible for the Verizon Edge line discount (currently $25 off when on the More Everything plan since we're a family plan with 10GB). I don't know why they haven't really advertised it (I did find references back in April about customers qualifying for the discount if they bring their own phones), but I did see it again in a press release yesterday, and it clearly states:

"Customers who choose Verizon Edge when purchasing or upgrading their smartphone using these promotions, or who bring their own device can add those phones to MORE Everything plans for $15 monthly access." Here:Get More With Best Ever Pricing on MORE Everything Plans

It seems to be a win-win-win!
