How do I get rid of the constant Visual Voicemail Update notifications without updating it?

After installing a new Android update yesterday morning, every few hours I receive a notification to update my Verizon Visual Voice Mail service. I do not use visual voicemail and I do not want to use visual voicemail. However, if I clear the notification or tap on it but select 'call voice mail' instead of 'Subscribe to Basic Visual Voice Mail' (no option to decline the update), I get the notification again in a few hours. Worst of all, my phone vibrates with each reminder (great at 3 in the morning). It's driving me nuts.

I called Verizon and the customer support rep stopped the app on my phone remotely, but the update notices started again about 12 hours later. She told me that, sadly, I would have to just subscribe or deal with constant vibrating reminders.

Please help.

I'd suggest going to VerizonWireless.com and going to your account. Log in and go to My Account then select Change Features in the drop down window. Remove Visual and add Basic voicemail.

I know my G2 was updated with the new Advanced Calling 1.0 software with 2 updates in a weeks time. It uses HD voice and video chat. The S5, iPhone 6 and LG G2 are the only ones thus far with that capability. Now, along with this feature you must add it to your account on My Verizon and Managing Features. Once the update installs the feature is already enabled, which you can also disable. Again, I say this due to this feature requiring you to add it to your account which is free, but also takes away basic voice mail and replaces it with basic visual voice mail. Reference Advanced Calling 1.0 - Verizon Wireless - Verizon Wireless Take a look under settings - and Networks. there should be an option in one of those menus that lists this feature. Hope this helps somewhat.

I don't want this to continue to be a thorn in your side. I can take a look to see what we can try to work out. What model phone are you using? Is there a reason why you would not want to use the basic Visual Voicemail? I do know that some phones do have this option, and it is a free option to our customers.

I have a Samsung S5. I don't want to use the basic Visual Voicemail because I'm perfectly happy with the current voicemail. What upsets me most is the fact that I cannot decline the update, I am sent a fresh notification to update every few hours, and if I don't have my phone silenced it vibrates loudly each time the notification arrives. I know Verizon needs to push its own apps for a variety of reasons, but this is harassment.

It is now 2am. I am awake because I forgot to silence my phone. I have infant twins and a full time job, so I don't have the time or patience for this. A few minutes ago I decided to just go ahead and subscribe to Verizon's (removed) visual voicemail just to make the notifications stop. Well, when I called customer service a few nights ago they blocked the app so when I try to update visual voicemail now my phone tells me I have to call customer service to have it unblocked before proceeding.

Guess what? Customer service is closed until 6am - THEY are sleeping while the notifications keep coming for something I don't want (and apparently can't get right now anyway). I have been a happy Verizon Wireless customer for 10 years, but this is driving me absolutely nuts. I'm now wide awake 4 hours before my twins wake and the workday starts. This is a nightmare.

Thank you for the suggestion, Snn5. Visual was already removed (and I did it again for good measure), but the vibrating notifications keep coming. Verizon won't take no for an answer, so I have decided to give in, unblock the feature, and subscribe. I know it sounds like such a small thing, but the creeping level of pushing of apps and now outright harassment until you give in is very disheartening. I'd pay another $10/month if I could just avoid all the product pushing. I'll have to consider other providers when my contract expires, though I'm not sure if any of the others are better.
