How do I use my Initial Airtime on an Iphone 4?

I recently recieved an Iphone 4 for Christmas.  When the phone was purchased from the Verizon website a $45 initial airtime was bought with it.  The phone is not allowing me to use this airtime and is trying to make me pay for more airtime.  How can I use the airtime that was purchased with the phone?
