I bought a Samsung galaxy tab (SCH-I915) in US through my sister. I live in Nigeria, The problem i have is that i cant use the device with my local carrier because the device says: non Verizon SIM
Your sister will need to contact Verizon, assuming she was the one with the Verizon account, and get the device unlocked for you. Sorry, that's gotta be frustrating.
Greetings,
My sister is in Nigeria now, she said she bought the phone from the market
and not from Verizon outlet.
The main point I found out is the she was not aware that the device is a
contract device. Maybe she was deceived. She bought it unknowingly. So
please i need a solution. I don't wanna continue blaming her. Just help me
to unlock the device please. I live in Nigeria and there is no Verizon in
Nigeria.

The 700 MHz frequency band should be unlocked since it is required per the FCC. However based on the the specifications (see Specs - Verizon Tabs SCH-I915 | Samsung Galaxy Tab) of the tablet, I don't think the tablet was global ready and was not fully SIM unlocked from the factory. If you are lucky, the LTE band 4 could be unlocked. At best, you can use the tablet as a wifi only device, but I doubt it will function reasonably on a foreign country's cellular carrier.
Hi,
Thanks, but i want to try first. How do i go about unlocking it. When i
unlocked and it does not work well with my local carrier, i will take it as
my fate.
Regards
If it is locked to Verizon, then you will need Verizon to unlock it, otherwise there is no point in Verizon locking it. Companies like Verizon lock devices in order to keep them from being used on other carriers. I have seen some websites that will offer to give you instructions and codes for unlocking devices, but there is a cost involved, and I can't really vouch for their credibility. Best of luck to you, I hope it works out.
Thanks for your input. How then can i get Verizon to unlock it. What are
the procedures?
regards

Verizon Wireless has certain requirements for the customer to qualify for the SIM unlock. First, you must be a current VZW customer. Second, the device must be on an active VZW account. There are some additional requirements as well, but those are the main two. As you are not a VZW customer and don't have an active account, you do not qualify.
It is not my fault that i am not a Verizon customer, i am currently in
Nigeria. Someone bought the device for me and the person is also in Nigeria
now. There is no Verizon in Nigeria
Regards.
Verizon's unlock default codes are:
000000 or/and 123456.
You're welcome
Thanks for your kind reply, please where will i put this code?

You have to put a new carrier's SIM in the device and power on. It will then ask for an unlock code. You will have very limited functionality of the device as far as using it on a cellular network. The new carrier may not even allow it on their network. That is all I know.
Thanks
