Buy LG G3 and get Free 8.3 G Pad is False Advertisment

So this weekend Verizon advertises on the Smart Phones page that if you buy the LG G3 you get a free 8.3 G Pad. Normally its says with 2 yr agreement required. However, it does not state this anywhere. I am due for an upgrade and have been researching phones for awhile. I was debating between S5 and the G3. I decided on the G3 based on perception i would be receiving a free G Pad hands down. After going through the check out process the G Pad did not show up in my cart. I then decided to chat with a representative and they stated i would need to do 2 separate transactions and that i would have to call customer service to get them to reduce the price to free. No where was it discussed i would need to have a 2 year contract for the G pad. So i proceeded and bought the G3 on the edge plan assuming i would just need to go in and order the tablet. It does not limit your selection to the 2 year agreement nor tell you instructions of what the deal is. Complete false advertisement of getting a two year contract even though i was doing the edge plan (trying to stay away from contract). I have screen shots of the advertisement.

No where does it say i need a 2 year contract for the G Pad. After a lengthy conversation with a representative who was very nice, she tried to explain that its in the customer agreement that says i need the 2 year contract. (conversation in which i also saved where she agrees that this is false representation of the deal) I read the whole agreement and it does not state that. No where on the website does it direct you anywhere saying i need a 2 year agreement. This advertising is straight up saying i get a free tablet if i upgrade and buy this phone. Basically this tablet would cost $240 for the 2 years of contract or i could just early terminate it for $175. Regardless, i made a business decision to go with a LG G3 based on getting a free tablet and since the website would let me add to cart, nor explain anywhere what the details of this deal are. I would like some more explanation on why Verizon would put this advertisement up without stating a 2 year agreement is required or forcing you to select a 2 year agreement or automatically putting it into your shopping cart so you can review your plan. I feel like i was completely misled into a consumer transaction by this advertisement and debating further action towards Verizon on this advertisement.

Perhaps you hadn't dug deep enough into the fine print of the offer.

There was none....that's what i was complaining about. Even with the representative we couldn't find at offer details or anything saying 2yr contract required. The day after I complained, Verizon's front page was changed which then had fine print with offer details for the g pad.

You are getting a tablet for free.....just needs a data plan....!

FYI...all verizon tablets are data enabled, they sell no WiFi only tablets.....

It should be our choice whether we enter a contract or not with our "free" tablet

Not even close. You are buying a $600 phone to get something free. The argument was that everywhere else they explain free is with 2 yr agreement, they did not do that with this example nor was it in any fine print available on their website and I even had a rep agree with me. They should say buy this phone and u get this tablet for $240 contract. Since I posted originally they have changed their website(obviously). Example is when other companies say buy this car and u get a free tv. Its not buy this car and,you have to have a contract with a cable company to get the tv.....

It should be common sense to know when you're buying a device from a carrier, that it's tied to a data plans. They don't sell wifi only devices.

Also, you're paying max $100-$150 for the G3 on contract...who expects a $250+ tablet for free?

Why do you think you should get a G3 an a tablet for $50? Is that a realistic expectation?

Whats great is you guys are missing the picture here. It's not that I didn't know, it's that they didn't say it, which in this case the consumer is right. Also if you chose to buy the G3 for $50, its a contract so they know they are getting a lot more money. Which comes out to the same amount as buying the full phone. So whether you chose contract or not, Verizon's gets the same amount. So the price of the phone has nothing to do with the offer. I don't want to do the math for you. The full intention was to show Verizon that out of all their promotions going on, they did not specify details in this one and should never assume we should " just know". Think about the mcdonalds hot coffee incident. I want a free gpad.

Same issue here. I was smart enough to check before the final check out since I did not see it in there. I searched Verizon and all over the web. I only found one other of the same advertisement and it also stated free G PAd. I spoke to the rep they said it's with adding an extra line. Now that's fine and all, but it's not what's advertised and there is NO small print. My add said free with 2 year contract that is ALL. I'm trying to see what direction can be taken because a lot of people are going to make this upgrade purchase and be ripped off because there is no information whatsoever staying there is something else you need to do, no fine print, no clause, no kidney donation, nothing.

I definitely understand where the confusion can come from in the screen shots in the posting but i myself bought the LG G3 online (coming from the Galaxy S5, sick of that phone) and when you go through the online checkout process for the phone itself and asks you whether or not you want to add the free Gpad it does state that the Gpad comes with a 2 year contract, that's why its free just like when you get a discount on a $600 phone for $30 thats because of the contract.

The tablet itself is free, not costing you any money down. The $10 monthly fee is just the line access to the data plan you have so the tablet doesn't have to be tethered to wifi constantly. So its the same as if you get a free phone, you pay the normal line access of $40 per month to your data plan

I also find it a tad bit ironic because the add at the top of this topic page for me tonight was for the LG G3 free get the Gpad free and right next to the learn more option it does clearly state 2 year contract req'd for each device

If you want tablet that can natively connect to the network then yes that's $10 line fee. The tablet itself is free. But to answer the question do you REALLY think there is something as a free lunch? Do you think any company makes money by giving stuff out for free? The fact people are mad that Verizon doesn't actually give them a 100% free tablet is amazing. People these days expect everything for free now.

And wen u return it they charge u a 70 dollar. Restocking fee. So I emailed the regional manager and she credited the fee back to my account.

Happened to me, not only no mention of agreement in the advertisement, but none from the employees at the store. Funny how you can't get out of the store without paying an activation fee on your phone, but the one for the line on the tablet is forgone till the next billing...hmmm

This happened to me too. I just realized it when I saw that my bill is $50 more than it should be (monthly fee, taxes, and activation fee).

I get when people say it should be expected that the tablet isn't free and it would need to be activated. The problem is, that's usually always stated clearly in bold print in the advertisement. As shown in the OP, it clearly wasn't. And in my case the people in the store didn't even know about the deal at all. I was the one that showed it to them and they gave it to me as a result of that. I asked them if there was a need for activation, and they read the same advertisement I did and told me "No." So yeah, it is a problem when they falsely advertise something and the store reps don't make the correction.

Anyways, if it's happened to you, it is worthwhile to call in and make a fuss about it. The didn't remove it since it was in the contract, but they did give me 30% discount on that phone line for a year and waive the activation fee. I'll still end up paying about $100 more than I wanted in the long run, but it's better than the alternative.

I saw the same deal and figured that it was "too good to be true", so I did an online chat with a Verizon rep who said that I could receive the pad for "free" and that I did NOT have to add it to my order, that it would automatically ship. I then specifically asked if I had to activate the pad and pay an additional monthly fee, and she told me that I could drop the pad from my plan and keep the pad.

There was nothing on the web site when I was ordering the phone that said that a two year contract was required on the tablet, that is why I chatted with the representative to specifically ask the question.

Verizon was very misleading with this promotion, and the customer rep either lied or did not know what she was talking about.
