Voicemail Icon Notification on Android Phone??

Just upgraded my wife's phone to an HTC One. Can't get the VM App Icon to function with regular, traditional voicemail. It wants to force you into subscribing to "Visual Voicemail". Customer Service says the VM Icon can only be used with Visual VM, NOT regular VM. However, this is strange since I use it on my Motorola Razr M (Android), and we had been using the Icon on my wife's previous phone, an HTC Rhyme. The VM Icon let's you get right to VM, remembers your password and shows any waiting VM messages. But, can't get it to work on this new phone :-(

Any suggestions?? Thanks.........

Basic Visual Voicemail does just what you want - it shows the # of VM received, you click the VM icon and can see the list of voicemails, old and new, and can listen to them without having to enter your VM password. You can also use *86 for the old voicemail. You can use the new Basic Visual Voicemail (free) or the premium VVM (fee based) on the newer Android phones.

Just took a look at Basic Visual VM and it shows it at $2.99/mo. Premium at $2.99/mo. also. Is this right??

No basic visual voicemail is free and is required for those using Advanced calling 1.0

The way they have named the various voicemail plans is confusing. Visual Voicemail for BASIC PHONES, is $2.99 a month; BASIC Visual Voicemail for smartphones is free.
