Droid Eris problem - when my alarm goes off, it makes no sound. What to do?

After I've set an alarm on the Eris, no sound is made when the alarm goes off.  I can't even preview the different sounds in the Alarm Sound options screen when setting one.  At one time, it worked fine, but now it doesn't make a sound at all.  When I check it to vibrate, that works, just no sound.  Anyone have a solution for me to try?  Thanks a bunch!  It's hard to wake up on time for work without sound!

Here are some steps given from other customers who have had this problem with the Droid Eris alarm clock:

1. Go to the 'Clock' application.
2. Click on the 'Timer' tab. (Should be the last of the four buttons on the bottom.)
3. Click on the 'Alert Sound' dropbox.
4. When the selection screen comes up, press volume rocker switch on the side of the phone to adjust your alarm volume.
