My Galaxy S4 is overheating to the point where is shutting off. Today I was doing house work and I smelled something funny coming from my room (where BTW my 15 month old son was napping). I go in there just in time to see my phone displaying a message that it had gotten too hot and it was shutting off. I let it cool down for about 10 minutes and when it was powered back on it was STILL registering at 106*!!! I have no clue if it was even hotter than that since it sat to cool down first!! So I call customer service and they advised that I needed to go into the store immediately and get a claim filed. They told me that this was a common problem with the S4's, especially since the most recent upgrade was done. I go into the store to try and get a new phone and was told that I was not able to get one because my bill was due as of today. I already have recurrent payments set up for the 15th, as I get paid on the 1st and the 15th every month (gotta love working for the state government). They refused to make any exceptions even though my phone damn near caught on fire!! They told me that until they actually received the payment (even though I've been with the company for over 10 years and have NEVER had my phone cut off for non-payment or any other reason for that matter). I asked if I can at least do a loner phone for the 3 days until the payment clears and am told NOPE! So I get back on the phone with customer service and talk to several different people who refuse to help me and all say the same thing. They want their payment to clear and they are not worried about the phone overheating but I should instead "only plug it in while I can watch it" or "just go without a phone until my payment clears". Really?!? So you're admitting that you all are more worried about money than you are about the safety of customer's when its a problem with YOUR phones. As I'm sitting here with my phone on the charger it is currently getting hot to the touch (98* after checking the temperature). Everyone I've spoken to is saying the exact same thing...pay us or we can't do anything for you. WOW!! Just wow, Verizon. I'm seriously disappointed that you are more worried about money than you are safety. I could understand if there wasn't a payment already scheduled or if I had only had an account for a few months but a 10+ year customer SMDH I'm quite ready to go over to another company because of this.
Bottom line if you have an S4 and it hasn't updated, don't do the update. It will make things run constantly in the background and make your phone overheat. Don't expect them to help you if your bill is due, not even past due because it's still the 12th.
