Why are letters and numbers blanked out on my device?

My Samsung g4 operating system was upgraded and now many of the letters and numbers on different screens are blanked out

I can open the phone only because I know what the blanked out # should be.

Mistake.. my galaxy s4 was updated with lolipop and is tge priblem o

I keep trying to say galaxy s5 . But with blanked out #s it's hard.

We never want you to deal with that. Those blanked out numbers would be very frustrating. Let's make sure this is taken care of. Does it help at all if you turn the device off and back on? Do you have any other issues after the update?

turning the phone off and then on doesnt help. I would take the battery out and put it back in if i could fig ure out how to do that. I am planning to take the phone into the verizon store and let them fix it or give me a new one. this one is only 4 months old. It also gets very hot sometimes and drains the battery in 5 or 6 hours, on some days.

A second try turning phone off and on fixed the blanked out #s and letters. Thanks.
