If the phone is lost or misplaced and the battery is drained, there is no way to find it until someone somewhere finds it, charges it enough to power it on and contacts you or a contact in your contacts list. You may try Android Device Manager from time to time on your replacement phone, a friends phone or from a webpage online to see if it was ever activated. The wifi would have to be enabled and connected to a source though. You should report it lost to Verizon if you know it is long gone with no hope of retrieval. Perhaps you have replacement insurance.
