Cannot make or receive calls on HTC One M8

I have an HTC One M8, running android. I cannot make or receive phone calls. I can send and receive text messages and the data works without a problem. The calling was working fine this morning. The battery ran out of juice and the phone died. After charging it for a few minutes, I powered it back up and the calling features didn't work. Has anyone else experienced this problem, or does anyone have a solution other than turn the phone on and off, replace the SIM card, or do a factory reset? Thanks.

HTCChuck, I want to make sure your phone is working properly. Do you receive any errors when trying to place a call? What is your zip code? Since this started, have you been able to fully charge your device?

Thanks for the question. I believe the device is working properly. I don't receive any errors when trying to place a call. About one second after dialing, a message appears saying 'Call has been lost." I have been able to fully charge the device. I have spent about an hour on the phone (not my phone, of course) with 2 different verizon reps who checked the service area to make sure there were no problems with the network in my area. I have gone to the Verizon store and had the SIM card replaced. I have changed the Preferred Network settings (as suggested in some other forums), but I have had no luck. I am currently backing up the phone in order to do a factory reset.
