Hey guys! Lollipop for the LG G3 is finally here! I'm downloading it now from system updates,
Post here your experience with the new update.
Enjoy!
So far, so awful. After the update I can't access the Play Store, which is preventing me from getting other updates.
The Play Store has to be updated after the lollipop update before you can use it, I got a prompt to update it, maybe try a reboot.
The reboot doesn't work. I'm stuck.
So far so good. Nothing major has gone wrong yet.
Your google accounts will not sync over wifi. It's a major bug in this update. It's a wifi syncing issue that Verizon didn't care about. They pushed out the update to everyone while knowing that there was this big wifi syncing bug. They knew about it weeks ago and submitted it to LG but still pushed out the update over OTA because they will get more money from you using their 4g or 3g instead of you using wifi. Don't put your phone into safe mode either because that will wipe out your widgets, default keyboard, and default sms app.
Lollipop was an awful update.
My battery drains so fast, I have to charge it few times a day.
I used to spend a whole day on a single charge.
I hope they fix it soon, or give us an option to go back to kitkat
WOW! Installed Lolly pop on G3 last evening. This morning I proceeded to download Email. got the dreaded " Server temporarily not available, try later" I went on the internet to ask the question and found dozens of people with G3 with the same problem. 4g, no problem. WIFI does not work as all others reported.. In an attempt to resolve the problem I rebooted my system modem then the router and ultimately the PC. NO change. I then did a G3 System backup and restore. which I usually do anyway with a major sys upgrade. Net result, the same as before.
So now the question is - How do I report the problem, who do I talk to, HELP
Agreed!!! Major issue with apps not synching over the wifi and only over mobile data 4g network. Also Google screwed this OS up as well with the Priority Notifications, tooo complicated to manage your phone between getting a notification and no ringer or vibration vs enabling sound or vibrate to acknowledge a text or phone call. Also without making your built in alarm a priority app, if you put the phone into no interruptions it will silence your alarm. Additionally this update drains the battery like no other, and the functionality is SLOW!
Lollipop is a good update. Check your battery usage to see what app is eating your battery. Also try a factory reset after backing things up. It's not normal for you to have to charger more than once a day.
Thanks your feedback was on point. I did a factory reset and the update is beautiful. Battery life is also better than ever.
After the reset you're back to running lollipop?
This update is completely horrible. My Facebook, Instagram, and other apps do not work at all. The battery drains fast and though I thought the ability to type in exactly what I want in the settings, I haven't found anything on the subjects of looked up. One being just the basic text messages and how to possibly un-install this update. If there is a way to un-install please let me know so I am able to and wait for an update that is better.
There is no way to un-do this update. We will all have to wait on the next update.
My G3 is just fine after the 5.0 update. Which i installed april 18.
Since the upgrade, both my phone and my wife's phone gets an error message when we try to get our email. Systems says "service temporarily unavailable, try again later".
Jennifer,
I updated all my apps, then cleared the cache on all of them and then cleared the data on all of them, but still no luck. Whenever I attempt to use the wifi, I get the “server temporarily unavailable, try again later” error.
I have never posted on this community board, but after updating my LG G3 to lollipop on 4/18/15 I feel compelled to provide feedback:
1. Initially my device (which had worked perfectly with Android 4.4.2) would not synch and would not reliably notifying me for messages (SMS) or e-mails. This problem improved after doing TWO (yes two!) factory resets and redownloading the 5.0.1 update and my apps. Uninstalling and re-installing apps had no effect.
2. My touch screen became erratic: There were areas of my screen which seemed to stop working (no response when tapping something to open it, etc), however it was unpredictable and did not appear to target a specific app. Often scrolling the screen a bit to move the 'hot button' to a different location worked. The long press maneuver for a number of apps was inconsistent--sometimes working, sometimes not. Performing soft reset sometimes would fix this. Scrolling was 'laggy' or sometimes 'hyperactive'--just a very slight touch of the screen would cause things to open that normally wouldn't. Changing the 'touch feedback time' in the accessibility settings had no effect on this.
I also had a very difficult time moving icons around on the screen--something that was a 'non-issue' in KitKat. It often took 2, 3, or even 4 tries to get an icon totally across the screen to the 'trash.'
3. Typing, in particular using Swype was at times unmanageable. I am using the past tense, because this problem was the 'deal breaker' for me. After a number of phone calls to Tech Support over the past week, I was sent a replacement phone which I held off activating, thinking things would get better on my upgraded device. My inability to reliably enter information using a keyboard 'drove' me to ditching my phone and activating the replacement. You can be sure that I am NOT 'taking the bait' and allowing the upgrade on the replacement device. I only hope Verizon will not 'push' the upgrade in the near future until all the bugs are worked out.
4. The changes in 'Silent Mode' are incredibly annoying. I understand the rationale behind the changes, but the interface is a bit confusing and very buggy. Though after doing the research I was able to set up my device to allow certain contacts to 'ring through' , I was unable to silence the battery charging and battery full notification sounds if the phone was placed in priority mode (leaving the on 'sound on'). I use a Qi charger at the bedside, and my phone doubles as an alarm clock. Changing the setting to 'vibrate' in priority mode does turn off the battery notifications sounds (and allows the alarm to function).... but it also does not allow me to hear my phone ring for those contacts (my 'favorites') who have 'priority' to make the phone ring (thus, how would one know that someone was trying to call if there was an emergency?)! Jeez! In addition, the LED continued to flash for other notifications when the phone was placed in priority mode (e.g., Gmail.... yes, there was no alert sound, but the LED still flashed). I was able to override this bug by purchasing a 3rd party app (Light Flow.... it's excellent). That said, Light Flow was unable to override the battery notification issue I just described. All very annoying, in particular if your phone is sitting by the bedside while you are trying to sleep.
So....... I'll stop here. Needless to say, if I had been 'trialing' the G3 as it currently functions with 5.0.1. I would never purchase the device! This is my first experience with an upgrade causing so many serious/unpleasant issues (perhaps I have been lucky with past smartphones). My only hope is that Google/Verizon will issue 'fixes' in a timely manner before I am forced to upgrade my replacement phone. Until then, I'll just keep tapping the 'No Thanks' option when alerted to the OTA update.
Thanks for reading my post.
I've factory reset my phone and the battery drain seems to have stopped. it's such a hassle to reinstall and configure all the apps again. I noticed certain push notification don't happen on WiFi until I open the app then get loads of notifications. I can run the phone on a single charge a day again but the experience is tainted by uncertainty. Factory reset should never be an answer.
Here are my observations from the newest update... I'm not too happy with it. Update 23C for LG G3
Using a LG G3
I also had major battery draining issues when I upgraded to 5.0.1, but I think I found what was draining the battery.
When checking battery usage the major culprits were SCREEN, ANDROID OS, and ANDROID SYSTEM. Under KitKat Android was never that high on the list. First I tried decreasing screen brightness with only a minor effect. I tried uninstalling apps that might use the battery in the background, with no improvement.
I then focused on Android and tried turning off SYNC with no effect. On a whim I disabled DATA and only used WiFi. Battery usage went from less than 10 hours with DATA on before depletion, to almost a day and a half using WiFi only.
Something in Android is using DATA extensively, but stops when only WiFi is available.
Since then I have updated apps, cleared the cache many times, and generally used the phone as I normally would, but without DATA on. I recently turned data back on and battery usage is not as bad as right after the upgrade, but still higher that it was when running KitKat. This bug needs to be fixed NOW.

I successfully performed the steps to disable the updates, but I'm sorry to say that Verizon has found a way to override this and again tried to push out the update to my phone today (I caught it and 'force stopped' it)
MESSAGE TO VERIZON SUPPORT: can one you you please be the champion and raise this issue up the chain to STOP us from being forced to update our LGs to an unstable software package?
You may not personally have a G3, so let me try to explain it in a different way.
Let's say you have a car that you love and runs wonderful. You get a notice from the dealer saying that there is a factory update to the electronic system that is available and you should bring the car into the dealer to get the update. However, your neighbor who has the same car got the update and said that it made his car break (lower MPG, stalling, battery dies). You check online and read that thousands of other car owners have had the same problem.
Would you want to take your car into the dealer to get this new update? So you avoid taking your car in, but then one night you hear some noise in your garage. You go to the garage, flip on the lights and there you find your local dealer's tech broke into your garage and car - then plugged his updating computer device into your car to perform this update that you didn't quite want yet.

I'm on wifi right now and my battery usage shows this: Screen 79%, Cookie Jam 6%, Android System 3%, Android OS 3%, Chrome 2%, Mediaserver 1%, Phone idle 1%. That's plugged in.
I unplugged the phone to see what happens. I got this:
Screen 88%, Android System 4%, Android OS 3%, Chrome 3%, LG Keyboard 1%.
I'm not surprised how much the screen uses. When i researched the G3, most reviewers said that Quad HD would do that.
