Loud, ear piercing beep during phone calls?

Anyone else having this issue? During a phone call, it will make a random high to low pitch beep lasting a few seconds...but is incredibly loud. Enough to make my ear ring. Will give no warning, no message, just kind of fade the call and start the beeping going on. I've powered it on and off, Reset it, and took it to the local Verizon store, but they think its an Apple issue. Just curious if anyone else is having the same problem.

I have this same issue. Usually it's a high pitch beep/chirp-like sound, similar to the sound of a fax machine. I've experienced this one 2 different phone in several different states. The person on the other end doesn't appear to hear it but it is extremely annoying and hurts my ears especially when I have the volume turned up all the way. It's hard to diagnose because it's random. I've searched around and cannot find a root cause or fix for it.

I can only imagine how annoying it can be when you phone is beeping as such. It is truly odd to hear that this is happending. I agree with you can be hard to pin point the issue when it is random but that will not stop us. I see you stated that this happens on different devices, what are the different devices you have experienced this with? What are the different states you were in when this happened? Have you noticed when this happens if you are in area with a low service signal?

Was there any conclusion to this problem?

I get the same thing, occasionally, on my Galaxy S6. Doesn't matter what state I'm in, although I'm mostly in Wisconsin and Minnesota.

I have a Droid Turbo and this problem has just started this week in my phone. It is very loud and earpiercing. I don't want to make our take calls on my phone because of this problem.

I found this thread searching for an answer as to why my phone does the same thing, it's incredibly annoying! It started about 2 months ago... I have an iPhone6 on the Verizon network, it started shortly after I upgraded from a 4 on the att network, not sure if that has anything to do with it... However, my husband has an iPhone 5 with AT&T and its happens to him now too and my mom said it happened to her once, she has an iPhone 6 on the sprint network and is in an entirely different state. I can't find a common thread other than iPhone, though someone on her mentioned it happened on their droid... Someone really needs to find a way to fix it though. It's an awful noise

Yes, I listed the same problem under, "Loud Fax like noises"

It has happened 4 times on my less than 6 month old new iPhone 6. The first three times were late at night and entailed a loud (As though I was on SPEAKER but I was not) Fax / Acoustic modem sound.

The first three times, it stopped after about 6 to 10 seconds, and the remainder of the call was normal. Some of the time the charger was plugged in, others it was not.

The last time, the noise continued, the other party was not able to hear me or speak either. I ultimately had to disconnect the call and redial.

I have not upgraded to iOS 9.0, 9.1 or 9.2. I will not, update as I have heard too many anecdotal reports of people loosing all their data after updating.

No platatudes about such and such department being aware and researching the problem. For what I paid and subscribe to your service, I expect MUCH better service.

My phone does this too I have the Samsung S6 Edge and it sounds like a two-tone from low to high super high decibel screech in the middle of a phone call it happens to me when I have a bad Wi-Fi signal more than anywhere else and again the person on the other line cannot hear it and it almost sounds like the old phone beep for an incoming call just super high decibel and high frequency sound but always to two tone from low to high in a matter of half a second

NATTUC27, it would be very concerning to have this sound out of the blue. Let's work towards some resolution. Are you using WiFi calling? Does this happen everywhere or just certain locations? How long has this been going on?

I just experienced this noise for the first time today. High pitch beed, very loud and random. Looking for solutions I found this post with no resolutions.

Verizon, here is what I have noticed. I have an iPhone 7. My phone seemed to be struggling with data connection today and has been stuck in 3G instead of LTE. While talking on the phone outside, I heard the random overly loud beep, similar to a fax machine. I stopped and looked at my phone, there was absolute no data connection. I person on the other line didn't hear the beep.

At the time that I hung up the phone, my 3G connection was reestablished.

I gave my phone a hard reset and I have LTE connection.

I hope these details help find a resolutions. FYI- I never experienced this while on T-mobile.

We are having the same problem, It occured on a replacement 6 that was replaced and the replacement and her new Iphone 7 is doing the same thing what isw the solution?

Eariler in the thread Verizon said to go General->accessibility turn off phone noise cancellation, it helps som but doesn't completely do the job, she also has the same problem on her new 7. Our zip is 20871 but the problem occurs wherever we are with anything from 1 bar to 5 bar signal. The iPhone 6 in question is a refurb from Verizon to replace another iPhone6 that was a replacement for a iphone5 who kept looking for a connection and never connected, So nothing new added to the phone it did this crap out of the box. Now the real question is it a hardware problem with the phone or is it a network problem. So now my girl friend has 2 Iphones with the problem a 6 and a 7. The iPhone7 has no apps on it and she was keeping it pristeen with very few contacts in it because her 6 has numbers for at least 10 to 15 years ago. So a brand new device should not have a problem like this.

Hello Everyone. Here's the deal, it isn't a problem with your phone at all. The problem is with the codecs and/or compression levels that Verizon uses for the call audio. To explain this in a much simpler way: When you speak your phone takes the sound and converts it to digital audio bits and bytes. In order to fit as many simultaneous calls on the tower you are currently connected to they downsample the audio to a lower bitrate (make it sound more robotic), think of two cups with a thin string between them like when you were a kid. This is the same concept because the cell towers need to take as many calls as possible, the lower your sound quality the more calls, the lower the bandwidth (amount of data) that needs to be transported.

The chirps you are experiencing happens when the algorithm of the codec hiccups, it misinterprets a piece of sound or the value of the sound to reproduce on your end or the other callers end gets mangled so to say.

So, it is not your phone's fault. I have had what is now VZW for 14 years. For work I have another phone with a different newer carrier and the sound quality is insanely better and no chirps at all. It's newer networks with higher bandwidth vs older networks with older equipment and less bandwidth to spare.

You have to understand that the technical support people you are dealing with only take phone calls, have rudimentary tools, and know nothing about codecs, network transport, radio sites, etc. The people who work with this stuff are behind the scenes and their job is to make sure that the network remains up and running. There is literally no communication between the two parts of the business.

I've been having the same issue recently with my iPhone SE. The phone is just over a week old and has minimal app activity (32 GB). The system specs are:

Version 10.3.2
Model MP8L2LL/A

Although I only have a week or so on the phone, this issue seems to occur when I have 1/5 or 2/5 bars. I've used the phone on many occasions in low-service situations, but it seems to occur more when I have wifi calling enabled. Hope this helps.
