Is it required that a phone be advanced calling capable to work in Haines, Alaska? The coverage map lists that area as "extended."
Thanks.
Extended just means you're using other carriers towers. Advanced calling I believe only works on 4G which you may or may not get while being in extended coverage area.
I was given information that the phone had to support advanced calling to work AT ALL in that part of AK. Sounds like that was not correct.
what's the zip code?
99827
For Verizon to sell a phone in Alaska, it must be advanced voice capable. If you are bringing a phone up to Alaska and you are already a Verizon customer it will work, but it will always be on an extended network since Verizon does not have native CDMA coverage in Alaska.
I think that explains it. I am adding a line to my account and mailing it to a person who is temporarily in that zip code. The phone I went with was not my first preference, just chose it because of the 'advanced calling.' It sounds like I could have chosen a different phone as long as I had ported in the number and activated it here BEFORE sending it. Then it would have worked for voice, text, and 3g data, just not 4g LTE. Oh well, live and learn I guess.
You gotta love poor information. Your phone will work just fine. You don't need advanced calling. You may not have super fast data speeds but you will be more than ok. No additional charge either, Alaska is in the states
