SD card blank and not formatted message

My phone unexpectedly shut down. When it came back online, my sd card was erased. All the apps that were stored on the sd card now appear grayed out. I have the sd card icon and a message that states my card is blank and not formatted. Can someone explain to me why this happened and how I can prevent it from happening again? Thanks

What type of phone do you have? Was it perhaps loose at all and maybe it was writing to the card when the phone was powered down or on or maybe something happened like removing a flash drive from a pc while writing happened.

Galaxy S5...I was on the phone and when I tried to end call, the phone froze, then rebooted.

There is a big bug in alot of the Sandisk cards that are causing hell to many people. You might want to check their forums about it. I had alot of issues myself about it. You will see Sandisk's forums are loaded in problems with their cards with problems. They have lifetime warranties and all you will need is your proof of purchase. Talk to someone in live chat if need be. If its another brand card you might have a faulty or fake card as well. Alot of Samsung cards were forged and repackaged and sold they were like sold as 64gig or 32gig when they were really 8gig or 16gig. A great program for testing your card to see if they are real is H2testw. Again Google and research all this yourself. It could be very likely you just had a bad card but be aware of things.
